Long-Tailed Jaeger (also known as the Long-Tailed Skua) Stercorarius longicaudus

I was fortunate to see one of these while visiting Norway.

Jäger is a German word meaning "hunter."

This species breeds in the high Arctic of Eurasia and North America, with major populations in Russia, Alaska and Canada and smaller populations around the rest of the Arctic. It is a migrant, wintering in the south Atlantic and Pacific. (w)

Another round of watercolor bird studies, in preparation for a larger painting. These are all Arctic birds that can be found at/near the North Pole...so you can probably guess the theme of the bigger illustration I'm prepping for ;) Fingers crossed that it will be finished in time for the winter holidays!
