Spent last night and today trying to determine when and how to get ahead of things (if possible) before they deteriorate - to prepare for our impending Heat Advisory.

When’s a good time to turn the A/C on? (Besides “before I get too queasy” of course.)

Anytime before it hits about 85° outside

Does it make a difference when we turn it off at night?

As long as it’s after sunset, nope.

Other benefits?

Yep - my (adult!) daughter’s laptop takes longer to overheat, when we use the A/C 🤣🤣

Today was my 50th high school reunion - I was happy to have the excuse of “my son’s getting married next month and I can only afford to do one thing” - have been reliably informed that the vast majority of my former classmates are MAGAts, so no big loss. You all are much more interesting and fun.

do you ever sit back and get so emotional over the women who came before us. they fought so hard just so i could wear comfy pants and buy nice things with my very own debit card and if i dont want to i will never be forced to cohabit with a man much less marry one. thank you so much i will never forget that you gave me the right to vote and be heard instead of just seen and because of you i can live this life i am eternally grateful for all you have done. may we never forget them and honor our foremothers by living this life that is only ours to decide to the fullest and use it to achieve the same freedoms for all women that dont have them yet <3

Wildfires in northern Ontario force First Nations to flee

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.

“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”

it has since been confirmed that namaygoosisagagun first nation has completely burnt to the ground. if you would like to help the community navigate an ongoing crisis, i urge you to donate to the anishinabek nation 7th generation, a registered charity seeking to improve the lives of first nations people. donations are going directly to members of namaygoosisagagun first nation.

relational trauma has to be healed relationally. the best way to practice having relatively "safe" interactions with ppl is joining a hobby group/club/whatever. I've recently joined like ten Fancy Leather Bag groups on fb out of deep curiosity and interest and the communities ppl will build around literally everything I swear to god. I've seen multiple ladies in these purse groups being like "thank you everyone in this hobby for getting me through my chemotherapy" like ... sometimes we dismiss the middle aged purse lady demographic but you know what they have got is a functional community where they support each other that just happens to be centered around purses. having now read many posts from these groups for several weeks I can see that the object being collected IS important, and is certainly the superifival draw into the space as well as something that provides an immediate shared interest, the actual benefit of localish hobby/collecting spaces is largely community and social support.

those of us who are Very Online Only could stand to learn from this sort of thing I think. it doesn't have to be purses it could be anything. but like. (gestures at the purse ladies who are getting each other through chemotherapy) Shared Interest Facebook Group And/Or Subreddit has it for you. i think.
