Let me tell a story
Very recently I found out a friend of mine committed suicide. We weren't that close but I had known him through track for a couple of years now. He had just graduated in June and in August he went to the garage and shot himself after getting in a huge argument with his parents. He had been struggling with his self image and depression for a long time. But he always made sure to tell someone a nice thing and always told a joke to make people happy. He didn't want people the feel the way he did. When I got to the viewing, which was held in his high school's gym, there was a line out the door and across the parking lot. When I got inside the line was weaved throughout the school's hallways. I stood in line for 4 hours before I got to the gym. One of my other track friends got a shot put (because we were all throwing friends) and about 20 of us signed our name on it. We gave it to the deceased father. He asked if we wanted it buried with him and we said yes. Then his father asked how long we stood in line and we told him. I then said "that goes to show how loved he was" and his father said "he was and I will tell you all right now, when you have little ones of your own you make sure you tell them. You make sure they know how much they are loved and how much they mean to you and the entire world. Don't make the same mistakes I did." Those are words I will never forget and I will do everything in my power to raise my kids to know they are loved and make sure they treat everyone with respect and love. Because it could actually save a life.
