Has there ever been a Scottish actor (besides Gerard Butler) to play the Phantom?

I'm sure there's been several, but listen to this name... SCOTT DAVIES. Born in Glasgow, played the Phantom on an off in West End and the UK Tour from 1991-2020, as understudy, principal and standby. He did at least 2,500 performances in the mask, according to his own calculations.

And frankly also one of the most intense portrayals I've seen, he was such a legend in the role.

As far as principal runs go I would think one of these:

Heather McFadden: c. 9 years (Broadway Oct. 2003 to April 2005, Jan. 2006 to April 2008, June 2009 to Dec. 2011. US Tour Sept. 2000 to Feb. 2002)

Brianne Kelly Morgan: 6 years Las Vegas (June 200 to Sept. 2012)

Kara Klein: c. 5 years (Broadway May to Dec. 2005, Jan. to June 2012, Jan. 2013 to Feb. 2014, Feb. 2015 to Aug. 2019

Joelle Gates: c. 4,5 years (on Broadway Aug. 1999 to Sept. 2003, and in the US Tour June 2006 to Jan. 2007)

Polly Baird: c. 4 years (Broadway May 2008 to May 2009, July to Dec. 2012, May 2014 to Jan. 2015. US Tour June 2007 to May 2008

Kate Wray (principal in the US Tour 2003-2007, and I wanna say also u/s Meg in Hamburg 2013-2014. She was furthermore in the original Basel production, I’m not sure if the understudied Meg there)

Hi Anea. I stumbled onto a podcast ScreamingDivas on YouTube with Scott Davies as a guest. There he said he accumulated 2500 performances and the company miscalculated when they posted on FB as 2000 (around 5:30 in the vid). Would this mean he dethrones JOJ as the longest running phantom in HMT? The podcast also had some infos like how Scott “closed the show” before the shutdown, and how they planned to renovate the theatre even before covid. I hope you check it out one day. As per the 2011 RAH brochure, longest running Phantoms included:

Peter Karrie (over 2,500 performances)

Howard McGillin (over 2,500 performances)  

Rob Guest (over 2,000 performances)  

Brad Little (over 2,000 performances, but when he bowed out in January 2016 he had surpassed Peter Karrie, with over 2,500 performances)  

Franc D'Ambrosio (over 2,000 performances)

Anthony Crivello (over 1,500 performances, I assume he joined the 2,000 club by the time the Vegas production closed some 10 months later)

Colm Wilkinson (over 1,500 performances)  

Thomas Schulze (over 1,500 performances)

Dave Willetts (over 1,500 performances)

Rick Hilsabeck (over 1,500 performances)

John Owen-Jones (over 1,500 performances, but passed 2,000 during the UK tour in 2012)

Osamu Takai (over 1,500 performances, he's probably joined the 2,000 club too, as he’s played the role for some years after the list was made)

Hugh Panaro (over 1,500 performances, should also have joined the 2,000 club by the time he ended his run in 2014)

It’s interesting that they made a big announcement of Scott Davies doing his 2,000 performance in November 2019, and it seems to be a miscalculation...! If he has indeed done over 2,500 performances as the Phantom, it means he has not only surpassed John Owen-Jones’ 2,000 performances. Scott Davies is then also currently one of the longest-running Phantoms in the world, both in number of performances, and in total run (1991-2020).
