Largest Longhorn Run Ever

For senior Angelina Braese, conquering Longhorn Run before she graduates was at the top of her UT Austin bucket list. She had heard about the memorable experience – the nostalgic “you are here” feeling while running through campus alongside thousands of fellow Longhorns. On April 13, she will be one of 7,500 participants marking the largest Longhorn Run to date.
“I have wanted to become a runner for years now and I have never found the time or motivation. This is going to propel me into a future where I can accomplish these running goals. The personal and academic development that I’ve experienced on this campus are so much more than I ever imagined,” said Braese, a senior government major from McKinney, Texas.
Her roommates – Zosia Sandweiss and Allie Rossmiller – motivated Braese to start running and accomplish her health goals. Together, they are co-directing 12 students on the Longhorn Run committee that coordinates race day logistics, planning, communication and outreach. There is a 5K and 10K course, training events to help runners prepare, and a supportive community of nearly 400 volunteers.

“It's a moment of solidarity and friendship. A lot of people run it with their friends or they bring their family. We have alumni, staff, faculty and students. Everyone's together just doing this one thing purely for fun,” shared Sandweiss, a senior Canfield Business Honors, sustainability studies and history major from Houston.
