I just got a commercial, and it was just adorable, and also quite genius. It was for a brand of beer, but that's not what the commercial was about. It was about carnaval, and specifically vacation from work during carnaval, as everyone gets during more established holidays, but not carnaval, because it's only in the south, and frankly the "normal" part of the country doesn't really care. It was entirely narrated by a drunk looking Brabander (a person from one of the south provinces), who said that if their petition gets more than x votes he will personally go to The Hague (the sort-of-capital city of The Netherlands). Now, the reason this is adorable is because Limburg and North-Brabant have always been kind of the "underdog" provinces. This is because they were wrong in the war. Not in the second world war or something, no, in the eighty years war, in the 17th century against our Spanish (Catholic) overlords. They were Catholic (it's pretty much, the further you go south the more catholic things get, until you hit the Mediterranean), which is also why they still celebrate carnival, but the more influential and protestant part of the country doesn't. But anyway, we won the war, and the first Dutch republic was established, The Republic Of The Seven United Netherlands. Now we have 12 provinces, so five were added. One province it's just entirely new, one was cut in half because it was just too powerful (also too well-known, hardly anybody knows the difference between Holland and The Netherlands), one didn't count because it was just too poor back then, no representation, but also hardly taxation, and Brabant and Limburg, which simply didn't get to count, or do anything really (although they did get to pay taxes, and they were pretty rich). Al the gewesten (like a state) were pretty much self-governing. The central government in The Hague primarily did foreign policy and army stuff and they governed Brabant and Limburg, through a governor, anointed by the highest regent in the country, and to this day, those two still have a governor instead of a commesaris van de koningin, and that just gives me a lot of enjoyment, and now with that carnival business, it's like watching a puppy trying to jump on a table, futile, but it's cute they still try.

so we talked for like almost two hours wtf, it was a little daunting at first. i was like scared at first bc i have trouble keeping a ten minute conversation going, but it wasn't really a struggle and i just thought that was kinda coo that happened on the first day back.

we talked about her fam's health (her mother's not doing remarkable but it's a lot better than it could be) she's been her caretaker since she was like 16 what she did that break, our schedules this semester/short term plans etc

and her strong and bright 'i can handle life' behavior in general reminds me a lot of you?... that's why i'm sharing, but. it's people like that you're like 'dude it's okay if you have one bad day come PAWNCH IT OUT' [edited ho boy: because they're like the best kind of people, what i think is they SHOULD be able to like 

get mad, or sad, or huffy, so you can get really genuinely glad again? IDK I CAN'T OR DON'T LIKE IMAGINING PEOPLE LIKE THAT SUFFERING FOR VERY LONG, LIKE... LET'S GO ON A HIKE... AND PICK TRAIL FLOWERS FOR YOU OKAY

that's what i want to do for lee anyway! because i'm not excellent at detecting anything but good vibe, but we should totally go blow dandelions out and go on a hike. OKAY EDIT END]

she's currently writing this article in the school paper that's like "remarks/comments you can make to someone with a mental illness that are offensive (without you knowing, and why)"  she was in my soc. class last semester so she's pretty insightful? um. 

I guess the thing that really hit me was, she said 'you can say that nothing bad has happened to you / other people have it worse / but something insignificant to someone else, might just be enough to make your 'glass' flow over / what does you in', she made a good point and i agreed full on for when it comes to other people 

but for myself I don't feel like I can make those same excuses! i'm like. really, grateful for my fortunate family situation they are literally the best, i always want to be more grateful? I just have a hard time seeing the biggest picture. of like, what i'm a part of.

so for like the past six to eight years of my life i've been living under this 'if I'm feeling ___ I've got to remember nothing bad has ever happened to me! So if i feel that way, i should turn to what i should be most grateful for and shouldn't have to feel that way for very long.' 

which is optimistic i guess but never quite addressing that there's something that keeps me from seeing the whole, big, beautiful picture and i really do want to be there someday

so i'm grateful as heck! for friends like you that seem to always have something to be chipper about. my big point here is, even if you're having a bad day, THIS IS TO LEE, you're allowed to have it? and grumble or set your elbow on somebody's head, i mean seriously. 

i want to hear you out like whether in stormy, murky, rain, hail or shine!!!! if that makes sense. I know i'm more 'hellfire and hail' but you don't have to be chipper and positive with me all the time, I like and want to get to know the lee that coasts through everyday! I just feel blessed to have met you.

but today like!!! turned out. and it reminded me of what the world can literally offer and that it blessed me to run into comrades like you, so i don't know if i can share this every day bc today strangely felt like a movie, but i really am stoked to be friends w/ you like yow!

5. A time you thought about ending your own life

i don't want to go too into detail with this one because it's sort of sensitive for me but i have been in a place where school seemed like it was pointless and too much and it seemed like being here was too much trouble and wasn't going to pay of and i thought about it a lot, but in the end i really don't want to die at all.

my first love was incredible, to be honest. we had ups and downs and we got to grow up together. she knows things about me no one else knows and never will know. i still have a lot of things kept from our relationship just because i can be happy when i look back on them. and she's also one of my best friends in the world now. i can't imagine not having her in my life. 

first kiss? it was gross and horrible and i was like 12 and it was so slobbery. ew.

20. How important you think education is

well i'm going to be a teacher... and i literally could spend the rest of my life in university if it didn't cost 6 billion dollars. i think it's vital in a person's life. and not just like academic education. you have to be educated about current affairs, politics, race/sex/gender issues etc. you always have to be learning something to get by.

25. Someone who fascinates you and why

emily lala fascinates me on a daily basis because she thinks in a really cool, unique way. plus she manages to be super awesome like all the time and i love her and i don't understand her because she's so perfect tbh

it's only the 6th o.O but um, highs: i got a binder, my hot fiancee called me one of the most wonderful people ever and said she knows i'm there for her. lows: i cut my head open, last night (i don't want to go into it), i'm too fucking busy
