It’s been months now, the two of them travelling together. He was indebted to her, he owed her his life, otherwise he wouldn’t have embarked on this journey in the first place. She had her own reasons, Lambert knew that very well, sorceresses always did. Now she needed him, to make sure her life was not taken either, seeing as these days sorceresses had an even worse reputation than witchers.
Reluctance he had infinite resources of, he would voice his displeasure at every given opportunity, not that he didn’t need to listen to Keira whine about lack of proper travelling conditions and no luxuries, although he learned quickly enough that she would conjure up her pocket realms, creating luxurious spaces in them to remind herself of the lifestyle she loved so much. A couple of times he would spy on her in secret, just to enjoy some entertainment himself while on the road.
Lately they argued less... somewhat, perhaps it was tiring at this point, or maybe they have got a little bit used to the presence of one another, not that Lambert would ever admit to that possibility.
After spending enough nights out in the wild, sleeping under the stars, both of them were in desperate need of a soft bed and some better food. A small town was on their way, promising some comforts and a contract or two, and soon it seemed they won’t even have to search hard for a problem to solve. On the town square the first thing they noticed was a small gathering, people talking over one another, the witcher could make out the distinct scent of fear.
“ I guess we could listen in on what’s going on... “
He glanced at Keira, not that they were too quiet about their displeasure either.
