Wordgirl has consumed my every thought so I had to draw them. Actually quite happy with all of these. I also have way more headcanons for these guys but I might end up drawing some of them.
I’ve been playing a lot of vintage story but also watching Minecraft horror mods and I was like you know what why don’t I combine them.
Lore below the cut (will include vintage story lore spoilers):
Both designs are mainly just proof of concepts, especially the Knocker. I’m not entirely thrilled with his design. I may tweak some things over time.
The person on the left i have yet to name but they will use they/them pronouns. As we know from the vintage story lore, rot consumed the world until something happened that triggered some kind of alternate timeline/dimension. The protagonist here comes into the world the same way the player does, waking up in a random place with no memory of their life before. Just a mysterious scar on their face and a completely blind right eye. I’d like to think the rot took their eye in their previous life but now it’s nothing more than scarring. They are blackguard class.
They have no recollection of their life except for a few faint feelings. All consuming darkness. Claustrophobia. They don’t know where they got their armor from. It was already on them when they awoke. And that was all they had to their name. The clothes on their back and the memories in their cloudy mind.
As for the Knocker, I’m approaching him from more of a folklore angle. In the previous world, he’s comparable to the enchantress from beauty and the beast. He would come to peoples homes in the dead of night disguised as a beggar and he would knock on the door. If no one answered then nothing happened. He would go on his way. If someone did answer but turned him away, bad luck would follow them. No he wouldn’t curse them and turn them into a monster but perhaps their crops didnt return well that year or maybe their spouse left them for someone else. It just kind of depends on his mood. If he was invited in and cared for, they would be blessed. So on and so forth. What you give he gives back.
Once the rot came though, he changed. As did many of the creatures and fae of the world (aka where the other horror mods come in). One other thing is that he could not enter a home unless invited in. Fae rules and all. But those rules went out the window over time. See he did survive on the kindness of these people. He may be immortal but he needed fuel in order to use his magic. Unfortunately when the rot hit, he was rejected more and more and this compounded. His curses grew stronger with each slammed door, making the already miserable lives of the humans worse. And then the humans started leaving.
They were going underground, into the domain of others (dwellers), somewhere he could not go. Desperation and hunger blinded him. If the door opened, he ate, but there was no one left to give any blessings to. Somewhere along the way, one of his victims was tainted with the rot and he too began to wither away. A constant ache in the pit where his stomach once was. Taunt, tainted skin stretched thin over his bones. But he was immortal. It couldn’t kill him. Somewhere in his clouded mind he wished it would.
Eventually the world crumbles to nothing and he is alone with his hunger.
Until he blinked. No he couldn’t blink not anymore. But the world changed before him like he had. Trees. Grass. Wind. Birds. Rabbits….meat. The pit was gone now but he still hungered……
I am much happier with these designs. I plan to get some shots from in game and start drawing them in. I have no real story in mind so I’m just going to play dolls with them for now.
