LOOp SonG Pt.2
Hello Everybody!,
For my loop song, I ended up using a total of 10 loops with 2 of them being drum/percussion loops and 1 being a bass loop. The rest of the loops being used for this song are synthesizers. I decided to make more of an EDM type of track in an effort to create a dance feel to the music, however, the approach to arranging the song was quite simple. I first started off with the percussion section to find the desired tempo for my piece, then once I felt as though the track evoked a dance mood, I added my first synthesizer which sounds much darker in tone and deeper in pitch. After having the percussion bits down as well as a leading synth, I began to experiment a little bit with the loops provided in the program. I didn't have much of a plan going into the song from a melodic standpoint, however, thinking rhythmically allowed me to tailor the melodies towards the desired tempo in which I was feeling at the moment. Although I do admire and even prefer to make music by recording my own personal loops and MIDI, I do believe that using pre made loops is a legitimate form of musical creativity as it not only allows musical ideas to flow much better for beginners, but also carries a key element of creating music which is the importance of sharing.
LooP sOng Pt.1
Hey guys,
For the resources portion of the assignment, the two questions I have in regards to the material provided are, how do we download more plug-ins for synthesizers in soundtrap? and what recent songs have utilized the AABA form? However, the song I chose to analyze for its structure is a song by a band called the Wailing Souls titled, Stop the Red Eye. The song mainly consists of verses and a chorus as well as a short instrumental section that starts at 2:33 and ends at 2:48. The song opens up with a quick drum fill intro on the snare accompanied by a bass, guitar, and piano. The song is then carries over to its chorus which starts at 0:19 when the vocalist beings to sing the lyrics. After the chorus section, the lead singer begins to sing the lyrics for the verse section at 0:35 and then proceeds to go back to the chorus section at 0:49. Throughout the song the chorus and the verses repeat two times before alternating, which remains consistent throughout the song until the end as it doesn't contain a bridge.
Oof! This loop song was quite the adventure to make. But reflection time!
Originally, my thought process to make this loop song was to go towards an EDM style like Slander who did inspire the beginning drop of the song. I stayed towards loops that were more electronic than others.
However, melody varied from section to section. Like I had marimbas starting out, then a synth which kept me in the EDM vibe for a bit and then back to like the Caribbean vibe with marimba and steel pans again. My last melody was a pizzicato cello which again not really EDM style. I think because I have such an eclectic taste of music, this heavily affected my choosing of melody. I chose loops based on did I like this and vibe with it or does it not suit my current beats that I have already set up.
Honestly, it felt like I took no approach to it because my main concern was reaching the two minute minimum marking. I knew that I wanted to keep the drum and bass line the same through out the whole song, but my drops were different and the melodic instruments varied. I give major props to those who actually have a proper process instead of throwing things together like I did.
I’m really biased when it comes to electronic music because I love going to festivals and having the time of my life listening to the different DJs onstage. I do believe that creating music this way is a legitimate form of making music because for me, the end goal to creating any type of music is for someone to listen and enjoy it to the fullest.
