(Sorry for the length of this in advance, but since loowynn and goldami tied i feel like my lil guys deserve a lil more in their propaganda, for when they go against toniexy even tho the one paragraph vs the bible is incredibly funny to me. Feels so free to cut out anything unnecessary, idk how to trim things)
Loon and Owynn are both very lonely characters.
Loons only has his one childhood friend, who he fears will leave him behind some day, and to some extent already has, thinking of Usagi as some shining star, and equally as unreachable. He never branches out beyond her to make friends of his own.
Owynn doesn't have any friends at all. He considers the other three villages as assets, coworkers, goons doing his bidding, not friends he can have fun with, much less confide in. What he's doing, who he's spending time with, is purely work. Work to prove himself as useful and capable to whoever he is doing the bidding of.
Loon and Owynn are driven by challenges.
In “Loons song” we see he and Usagi participating in various activities together, racing against each other, and Loon privately studying and doing push ups in order to keep up with Usagi, who he clearly compares himself to. Who he challenged himself against, and grows through said challenge. He's motivated to achieve things through her. Yet he does see Usagi as someone greater than him, with so much light and potential Meanwhile he lacks that inherent glow, struggles to keep pace, and can only admire her light. He fears her leaving him behind yet reads as almost resigned to it to me personally, as if he sees it as some sort of given eventuality, and so clings to things staying the exact same.
Owynns whole plot to sabotage the bands is a challenge he sees himself as up to. He thinks he can do it, and in his song he is incredibly invigorated by the idea of tearing them all apart. Though, another challenge hinted at within his song is actually some form of rejection. “Se creen tanto, riendo y jugando sintiéndose amados y despreocupados.” This a change in tone and sticks out more than anything else, he has conflict with other people having these things. It angers him. It's easy to understand the reasoning behind these sentiments because he doesn't have any of that. No one to laugh or play with, no one to feel loved by, and certainly not the luxury of being carefree.
Owynn has to prove himself, surpass his challenge and sabotage the bands from the inside. Loon needs things to remain as they are, and they inevitably meet via the spring festival, with Owynn joining Idol Duo.
Loon doesn't want Owynn in their group and is uncomfortable with him around but doesn't protest. Owynn easily overshadows Loon in presence, the latter of the two is quick to shrink and hide away anyways. It's his reclusive nature. He's a recluse, he doesn't branch out, he doesn't get to know people and he doesn't make friends. Even when Usagi tells him to take this as a chance to make friends, Loon is quick to wave away this idea. He likes things staying stagnant as they are, he likes things saying the same. He thinks Owynn's entering their group is "spoiling" what's established. These are his initial thoughts, but later we see that he says he'll prove to Usagi he can make friends.
Why this change in attitude when he's been so set on things staying the exact same?
Simple, some part of his brain took it as a challenge of hers. The challenge is to befriend their new group member.
Loon finds out about Owynn's evil intent, to an extent, and Owynn assumes he's some trained spy and threatens him into silence. In canon Owynn was quick to leave, but what if he had stayed with Idol Duo a little longer? To make sure he tore the two apart, to make sure Loon kept his mouth shut? Then Loon would have to deal with this guy wrecking his need for consistency, speaking over him, and taking his time and space with his only friend.
I think this would be a GREAT way for Loon to have some character development that sticks. He's being challenged by Owynn moment, but his routine and his band with Usagi. If he is pushed around and spoken over enough to annoy him, he{d have to start speaking up, growing a spine, matching Owynn's energy in order to be heard. Loon would have to rise to that challenge Owynn set for him, and grow through it.
Owynn already views Loon knowing his secret plans as a threat, as a challenge to overcome somehow, and if Loon with his growing bravery began to confront the guy, USED that to his advantage and genuinely kept tabs on Owynn? Owynn’s in hot water now. He already saw Loon as a sort of threat to his plans of sabotage, Loon breaking out of his cowardly demeanor, learning to stand his ground, speak up louder, THROUGH Owynns threat to his "comfort zone", is what ironically gets him to step out of it!
They're both hostilely watching each-other, making sure the other doesn't do anything the other considers out of line. An easy way for Loon to excuse his sudden hovering over Owynn would just be that he's trying to make friends with him. Internally keeping an eye on him, meanwhile on the exterior he's acting all friends and innocently “checking up” on his new band-mate whenever Owynn tries to separate himself to do anything. Owynn having to navigate Loon knowing that he isn't here for any good reason, adds a layer of complexity to how he has to go about his plans. Loons watching him, and Owynns got to watch his back and be completely certain no ones around when he wants to sabotage some instrument, and I don’t think Loon would just leave him alone around their things after he has already found Owynn was tampering with things so early on into joining their group. If Loon is keeping an eye on him, and isn't letting Owynn have a moment alone around their things, Owynn then has to be more subtle, or scrap the “sabotage their instruments” route entirely.
Of course he will rise to that challenge, he will formulate a new plan on how to take them down, and be extra sure he isn't caught. He won’t be defeated by some student who found out his inventions, he doesn't get beat so easily. He has to prove himself as capable after all, what good would he be if he couldn't adapt to the circumstances?
If Loon is acting all amicably, Owynn could certainly go with that flow. He can dawn that friendly facade too, and change his method to one of destroying the two socially somehow. Ruin their friendship, cause some internal drama. Now they both know they see each other's true sides, and are both pretending to be friendly. Which lends itself to subtle double sided things to be said between each other, a tone shift in voice or certain choice of words to tell the other something different than what they literally said.
Now that this challenge that Owynn presents could gradually go from hostile to enjoyable, at least for Loon. Having that sort of social jabbing and both pretending and KNOWING each other is pretending it registers as the same as all those challenges and competitions he would do with Usagi growing up. Loon gains some confidence to put down borders, and speak his mind, keep Owynn in check, and once he feels less threatened, once he feels they are on even footing, I can see him relaxing and enjoying it!
Then Owynn is playing nice, and having given up the physical sabotage route he's certain Loon can't figure him out this time, not so easily. Not without looking crazy for the thought. He already saw loon as a threat initially, and never thought of loon as stupid, that he was just acting that way. On some level, he sees Loon as capable, and so he wouldn’t let his guard down like that again. As this situation between them keeps going, Owynn would think that his assumptions got "proven right" via Loons growing retaliation and confidence but of course he won't let go of his "good guy persona" he keeps being friendly while people are around, responding and their snide remarks to each other could pass as friendly banter.
Now they both have things to fight for, Loon has since been able to grow out of Usagi's shadow and is fighting for Owynn to let them have their band, and has grown through Owynn's challenge. and Owynn has been working under mysterious orders.
Owynn doesn't really have friends. As I stated earlier he considers the other villains as coworkers and the students anticipating the music event as obstacles. So what if, prolonged exposure to Loon and Usagi, got to him little by little?
He's not really pure evil. He's 16.
He's a 16 year old with no real friends and is now spending time with this group of two, who he should be sabotaging, but he doesn't have to spend actual hours with them. He learns their personalities, interests, dynamic, through constant exposure and because knowing your enemy is important too. Right? Those moments of back and forth become a little more difficult to detect whether or not they were meant maliciously, he doesn't have to fake laugh at a joke, and maybe he notices a thing or two about Loon and Usagi's relationship, purely from being exposed to them, purely from the privilege of being a spectator. He might notice How Loon admires her, but does not exactly seem connected in a way that satisfies him, there's some gap between them on Loons side, there is some distance between him and his only friend. Even with his best friend, Loon feels lonely. And Owynn can't possibly empathize to that deeply rooted, inescapable loneliness. Right?
He might catch himself genuinely enjoying Idol Duo's company, he might find himself empathizing and humanizing them, when he previously only saw students as obstacles to overcome. And stranger yet, he may find himself enjoying Loons company, empathizing and humanizing HIM of all people. The person who knows his ulterior motives, the threat to his plans, the reason he had to reroute himself and stay there longer than he originally intended. He has the ability to act like they are friends for prolonged periods of time, then behind closed doors they are in that "mask off" environment. They can drop the friendly act and show the seriousness, Owynn can show how serious he is about what he's doing and what his job needs him to do. To loon. He finds himself being real with the guy who's a threat to his plans. Showing a side only the villains are privy to.
Loon knows both sides of him now, the act of friendship that may or may not be slipping into genuine enjoyment of their company, and the guy who's under orders. What if all it takes to stare breaking down walls is to ask why he's even doing this? Would Owynn actually answer honestly, dismiss the question entirely, or be vague and cryptic. How does he react to genuinely getting asked about his circumstance, how he's holding up, why he's doing what he's doing. The villains follow his orders, and likely don't question him, especially not in a way that adheres to his actual self. They ask things to their boss, not to Owynn. Whether Owynn answers honestly or not, Loon can either be told directly or get the impression that Owynn's are under someone's control, that he HAS to do what he's doing. and maybe. Maybe Loon can challenge him right back, against whoever is controlling him. OR! Maybe Owynn can gain an ally no one would think twice about questioning for nefarious intent! Loon is unassuming, he could get a lot of information just by existing nearby and people forgetting he's there…
Loon knowing about Owynn's circumstance, detailed or not, can spawn concern in him, and concern for someone and care for someone can easily lead to each other, somewhat hand in hand. Owynn genuinely having someone fucking care about him as a person, not as an asset, not as a boss, but him as the 16yo boy Owynn could! Certainly do something to him! Loon knows both sides of him now, the act of friendship, the guy who's under orders, and maybe he meets a new facet to Owynn. Maybe he meets the 16yo who doesn't know how to navigate being cared for or genuine friendship, much like Loon himself. Maybe he meets not the saboteur, not the friendly ruse, but Owynn truly and fully. Just Owynn, who the guy himself may not truly ever allow himself to be. He's got a job to do, a part to play, and no one to be honest with. Maybe he doesn't know how to be himself. Maybe he's not pure evil, maybe es 16 and lonely. Maybe he wants friends. Maybe he opens himself up to friendship, by small increments, once they are friends it's easy to fall into romance. I think the two of them deep down REALLY enjoy being challenged and growing from challenges... that's what I think is at the root of them... that and loneliness.
They grow from challenges. They're lonely. They're starting to learn about each other.
Propaganda 2: pretty please
Propaganda 3: it would be funny
(you dont have to add those lol. revising my whole reblog rant was certainly a task lol.)
I'm going to have to post this ask, because apparently Tumblr has a character limit and this propaganda, uh, broke it lmao. Good job loops that's great.
