Loose Change
I keep finding old versions of me in the quiet places in the way I flinch at kindness in the reflex to run when things feel real in the words I almost say that used to leave scars
I am not who I was but he still lives somewhere in my bones a ghost with my voice teaching my hands old habits like they're prayers I forgot I learned
Some days I win I swallow the anger before it turns into something sharp I sit with the ache instead of numbing it into silence I tell the truth, even when it trembles
Other days I hear him laughing See him in the wreckage of a moment I swore I would handle differently And I hate him God, I hate him
But I'm learning hate doesn't build anything new
So I pick up the pieces again not because I believe I'm fixed but because I believe I can be different one small decision at a time
I am trying to be softer without breaking Trying to be honest without bleeding everyone dry Trying to be someone I wouldn't have hurt
And maybe that's what change really is not a clean break not a new person entirely but choosing, again and again to walk a little further away from the fire I used to call home
We all agree Kendra listens to true crime podcasts right

Putting loose change in the stripper's underwear so it sounds like a hefty coinpurse from the middle ages while she throws it back.

It's 2020. Six people meet at a wedding It's 2015. Six desperate idiots rob a bank. It's 2010. Six fraudulent college grads swindle a gated community. It's 2005. Six kids escape their home. In the town of Marston, Virginia, six protagonists find a coin that, when flipped, can let them take anyone's appearance. Over a series of robberies and heists, they grow up together, find themselves and each other, all from the perspective of their future selves, looking back to how they got to where they are now, and why they haven't spoken in half a decade.
