🌑
Orpheus scooped up the piece of paper he’d become so accustom to leaving behind, ice blue eyes with a thin ring of red skimmed over his own words of reassurance. A small frown appeared on his lips when his gaze locked onto the way the paper seemed crinkled at the edges, as if someone held on too tightly but tried to smooth out the wrinkles after. Once again he would fold the paper neatly and placed it back on the side table, with her name faced up. The same way he did every morning when he had to leave before Zurri would even begin to wake.
Turning to face his bed, Orpheus would feel his heart sink a bit in his chest. The smaller Miqo'te usually preferred the side closest to the door but instead Orpheus found the mess of curls on his side of the bed, eyes roving over the slumbering lump until he found the smallest hint of her black ears peeking out from her white curls. He would say nothing as he simply undressed and slipped in beside her, barely lifting the covers so the cool air wouldn’t reach the bare body that was hidden beneath. The bed wouldn’t creak or move showing just how delicate the man was in compared to his bulk.
Once the covers settled around him, he would carefully pull the small woman into his chest, clutching her body to his own as he tucked her head under his chin. One furred ear would flick against the curve of his jaw as Zurri stirred, nuzzling her nose into his chest before pressing closer him. “Yer back.” She’d mumble. Orpheus only chuckled, a deep rumble in his chest before he kissed the mess of curls. He knew she already drifted back to sleep but he answered her anyway. “Yea, I’m home.”
