This time we have another main character: Krea!! I definitely had to draw her with her bow and making her war face. Her dream is to become a famous warrior, but she isn't that great with weapons outside of the bow. She's also got a short hunting knife that I didn't include here. I'm working on the design of her top. I like the idea of draping cloth but not full-on cowboy poncho. It is supposed to be two layers: the under layer is worn by women like a bra whereas the men don't need it so they wear only the outer layer. I was doing a bit of designing with her boots at the top since she comes from a people of horse riders so I incorporated a side lace on the outside along with a reinforced inner layer. It just so happens that you can't see the lacing due to DYNAMIC POSE OMG. I again took special attention with the hair but this time it has a backstory. It is actually rather long as her people don't believe in cutting hair. This also applies to boys but they also shave a portion of their hair on one side. It is only taken down out of its braid once a month to wash and rebraid in a day-long cleansing ritual. It is only on this day that the hair may be cut to get rid of slit ends and any damaged hair. The day is spent cleaning the whole body and relaxing. No work may be done so this holiday is generally held over a few days with people taking turns. Otherwise the hair is tightly braided in forms passed down in the family. Other notes, the bow position is kinda killing me since it's too low so I'm pretending she is still in the motion of drawing and bringing it up to fire... Aka I didn't want to hide her face and I would have to redraw her arms.

I had a very non-Lora urge to draw Falyn yesterday and I drew his basic outline and the armor. The rest of his clothes was today and you can probably tell I hit a creative blank after the boots and chest piece. I knew he had to have some sort of belt and hip sheath for his short sword. I didn’t know if I wanted him to have sleeves or to keep those biceps out in the open hence the awkward tank top/overcoat. Still, I think it could work given the simplicity of the design - not too hard to make in a setting with a lack of clothes-makers.

I wanted some sort of hood though since he travels through harsh sunlit areas and should have some protection from the heat. You might be able to make out my eraser marks from where I tried and was like NOPE.

I’m really loving how his hair turned out. Usually hair is a super weak point in my art (along with face, hands, body parts in general, clothes, etc) so for it to come out more or less like I pictured is amazing!

I added a scar on his right shoulder on impulse. It doesn’t have an exciting backstory, he most likely got it on one of his Order missions - I imagine it being a deep wound against a very tough opponent, and his commander being worried about him losing the arm during his recovery, but nothing too elaborate. I entertained the idea of tattoos/more scars and decided against tattoos in favor of eventual war paint. Of course he has other scars (and will get more) since he leads a dangerous life, but those stories are yet to be determined.

His staff is very important to him and I’m sad I couldn’t do more than a rough sketch. In my original imagining of Falyn, he literally wielded a branch he found in the woods against his new recruits. However, once I meditated a bit more on his personality, I realized that he is a staff-fighter and should carry one. Falyn loves efficiency so I can’t imagine the staff being too intricate, but I’d like it to have some kind of simple, easily-recognizable design on it. Eventually. For now, it is a piece of wood with two weights on the end.

Character Sketch: Falyn

Name: Falyn (pron. FAA-lin) Age: 20 Appearance: Very dark, almost black skin with dark, ashy eyes. Hair grows in tight, medium curls, but he keeps it short, especially on the sides. Quite tall, about 6' and lean-muscled. Right-handed, but martially ambidextrous. Family: None. Adoptive family killed by raiders. Home: Presumably Union 1 originally because of his skin, but a refugee since it is now Blighted.

Travels with the Green Order Axe as Second Lieutenant for Major (name tbd) on recruiting missions and patrol. Favors a heavy staff as a weapon and carries a short blade and hidden dagger if he needs a sharp edge. Well-versed in all kinds of weaponry. Sees fighting as a means to an end and fights incredibly efficiently. He prefers light, but sturdy clothing - good for traveling to various climates as well as for combat. Has armor on his left arm kept in place with a leather chest piece. He is used as the combat opponent for recruitment.

Harbors a deep hatred for the Steraen for killing his birth family and indirectly causing the deaths of his adoptive family (the raiders were drawn to stealing because of the Blight). Has a strong sense of justice but is very single-minded. Once he has a plan in motion, nothing can deter him.

Character Sketch: Krea

Name: Kreandis (pron. kree-ANN-diss); Goes by Krea (pron. kree) Age: 17 Appearance: Fairly tan; long brown hair that she wears in braids tied around her head in the traditional style; dark brown eyes; shorter than average; stocky build; right-handed Family: Father Bruin, Mother Lisia (deceased), younger brother Lyro Home: Union 6 (insert name here) - a average to large town in Union 6 with outlying farmland - one of few trade hubs for crop supplies to the Blighted Unions.

Her father runs a horse trading/breeding business in which travelers can trade in their tired horses for fresh ones for a fee (extra if the horse being traded is injured or otherwise requires an extended recovery time) or donate them to the breeding stock in return for free lodging.

Krea's main job is to manage and take care of the horses daily needs - food, water, exercise, safety/cleanliness. She also adds an extra hand to inn-duty when it's busy though she doesn't enjoy it one bit. When her mother died, her father expected her to step into the innkeeper role and take care of the household. She didn't. More than a bit on the reckless side, Krea has a taste for glory. She dreams of leaving her town and joining the Axe (militant peacekeepers of Cael) even though they rarely take girls. She believes she is exceptional and secretly practices military craft (sword-fighting) with her long-time friend and partner-in-crime, Thal.

She is very adept with a bow as all Union 6 children learn it from a young age. She also knows a bit of knife-fighting for self-defense when hunting, but never in a person-to-person context. She likes to think she’s pretty good with a sword, but she’s got a long way to go.
