Since I’m on my own kick of relistening to the music of a local rock opera from my hometown trying to get to Broadway, and read your entire commentary on the music of the poto movie, I’m curious what your opinion of my rock opera would be. Deep Love: A Ghostly Rock Opera’s plot is a young woman named Constance is a widow to a man named Old Bones and gets in a relationship with a young man named Friedrich, both unaware that Old Bones has come back from the grave as a ghost and is furious Constance is, from his perspective, breaking her wedding vows because and I quote from the song deep love (the second track) “what use are such vows if they aren’t held well beyond the grave?”

The Spotify but you can find it on band camp and iTunes. Personally I think the guitars sometimes drown out the voices and it can be hard to hear when the four characters in the opera are singing over each other. However my favorite tracks are“the great ghostly pickle” and “the chant of the dead”

First impressions:

The good: the singers sound pretty good and I like the songs.

The not-so-good: I agree the guitars are too loud. Also, I think the score relies too much on guitars and would sound better with other instruments. Or maybe it would sound better with non-electric guitars?

The audience is also too loud; in "Keep My Hand Above You" they almost drown out Constance's first lines.

Overall I like it and I hope it gets to Broadway!

Hyperbole: How would you define your prose style? Is it heavily descriptive or more pared back?

OOOOH okay, I would say it's very descriptive, and very character centered, I have a hard time describing settings and places, but I love digging around a character's brain and figuring out why they're upset, or happy, or nervous, etc. But also, I want to make sure the reader connects with the characters in any sort of way.

So I had the sudden thought if Cass was the daughter of a brotherhood member who’d given her to a friend (Captain) in Corona during the dark kingdoms fall, she would have been a more compelling character and it would have made more sense. And if she’d been Hectors well, imagine the gut punch of realizing she’d nearly killed the parent she might have thought was long dead.

Cass being part of the dark kingdom (or even Hector’s kid) is something that I’ve seen kicked around before! The Hector-Dad angle not as much as Dark Princess Cass, but i’ve definitely seen it.

Part of me does wish that Cass had been part of the DK instead of Eugene (but thats just me lmao) though I feel like if we followed along with most of canon as is, she’d probably have some weird, angry feelings about being related to Hector, especially when he was kind of an asshole to her (and also tried to kill her, but that awkward drama could be pretty neat as a whole tbh)

I feel like she’d be angry about the whole thing, honestly? At Hector, mostly, or at least it’d be directed towards him. It would have been a neat angle, and probably bring in some more screentime for Hector.

This time, as I had told her in Slavic traditional myth, vampires take the form of moths, not bats. So now I impart her cursed comment. Mothman is a vampire. The feeling I got when hearing that is my entire vibe
