The way avid is not even sure anymore about what he's seen because he kept kind of being gaslit because he wasn't using assertive enough language like okay you don't have to go and bring my Autistic Childhood Trauma with someone else lying to the face of a mob of friends or teachers or just in this case, townsfolk and being told that you are lying and they're morally correct even though you are hurting from their actions and just being told that no actually you're the one who's destroying their life you're the one who's ruining everything for them because you don't have enough proof of the things that they did
I've had that exact experience as Avid with the phrase "I think"
That shit brought me back to middle school with my old bully and that was literally her defense in front of the teachers "why is lore only saying "i think" about what I did doesn't seem like she has any proof"
