One for the Money
starter for @scarletgunslinger
Not just pirates, but sailors in general could be quite stingy with their money. If there was no reason to waste it (save for alcohol, perhaps), when why do it? And it was not often than anyone was taken from Miss Fortune’s crew. So few, in fact, that none had been taken in a while. They had proven responsible sailors in years past.
This was, of course, for good reason - but one crew member pondered this and had decided to try their luck. If none of them were taken lately, then maybe there wasn’t a reason at all to continue with this awful waste.
It wasn’t long at all after the ship had set out to sea on this journey that the rest of them had tossed something over the side, as was custom. The man in question shrugged off the question when one of his mates had asked him if he’d done the same, telling him that yeah, sure, of course he had. The answer was accepted easily, for one would assume that it was only logical.
There were consequences to not doing so, after all.
Time passed and unseen eyes watched the ship get further out until Lorelai decided it was time, at which point she did not see fit to appear, but she was quite close. If one bothered to look to the sea, they might have seen a pair of pale glowing eyes somewhere beneath while a voice called out to only one, falling on deaf ears for all others.
Only he who was foolish enough to prompt such actions could hear her call, quite suddenly ceasing whatever action he’d been doing in favor of looking to one side of the ship. It would take no time at all for him to walk there, swing a leg over, and fall - right into her clutches.
Whether or not anyone noticed or cared did not matter to her in the slightest.
