Tahm hopped up from his chair as gracefully as one of his stature could manage, sweeping over to retrieve Lorelaiâs bowl from her and taking it off to the side, where he laid it carefully, almost gently, on the floor next to the exceedingly gentle simmering cauldron. Checking the temperature, he nodded sagely to himself. Just hot enough to keep it warm, not hot enough to cook it anymore than it needed to be.
Lifting the lid, he took a sniff, and smiled widely. ĂtoufĂ©e, prepared nowhere near as fancily as some places in Bilgewater took pains to do it. Merely a mixture of rice, crayfish, crab and roux, nowhere near as watery as the starter. He reached for his ladle, and then for three larger bowls, scooping a generous portion into each.
âNow, I hope you enjoy what Iâve got next. ĂtoufĂ©e, with crayfish and crab,â he heard himself saying to her. âRather a Bilgewater and Serpentine tradition, this one. Ainât got a clue where the name came from, sounds far too fancy for our lot.â
He turned, balancing the three bowls carefully, before walking over to her and placing one in front of her. He nodded to one of the spoons to her side, a non-verbal invitation for her to begin eating whenever she felt she was ready.
Making his way back to his own seat, he put the two bowls down and sat down with an excitement that was clearly visible to anyone.
âIf you want more sauce, thereâs plenty more. Just say,â he told her, rubbing his hands together with glee. âIn the meantime, enjoy.â
She was neither surprised not perturbed when the demon rose with alacrity to retrieve the bowl that she had only just finished emptying. He took it to the cauldron heâd taken such pains to care over and the woman only raised one hand to rest her chin on her palm and watch him. He seemed to care so much about it all, even though Lorelai herself had certainly never had such cuisine and therefore no basis of comparison. If heâd done anything wrong in the preparing of such dishes, she would never be able to tell.
The idea that Tahm Kench, feared and revered demon of the river, might go to such lengths in her company brought a smile to her lips that hinted at amusement. That she might trust him enough to let him was another thought altogether, but perhaps one to be pondered at a later date. Lorelai had all the time she could possibly hope to think about thinks by her lonesome anyway.
At the mention of crayfish and crab, her eyebrows rose fractionally. This dish, perhaps, would suit her a little better if it had something more familiar to her in the mix. That it might have originated from another nation beyond those closest was a... surprising delight. âPerhaps...âÂ
White eyes dipped to the bowl that was placed back in front of her before she plucked the correct spoon he indicated from the table and watch him seat himself just opposite of her once more.Â
For a moment, she did not eat, but only pursed her lips and observed, fingers idly flipping the spoon over in her hand slowly. âI must say, you have outdone yourself with such preparation, my dear Kench. Then again, I would venture to say that, when it comes to cuisine, you are more then likely quite familiar with the subject, yes?âÂ
She watched him still as the spoon came to still and she moved to retrieve and try a mouthful of the ĂtoufĂ©e.Â
