fuckin [clenches fist] language evolution man. how we can literally interpret languages that have been dead for thousands of years and incorporate them into our own languages and lives and how we can revive the words spoken by people long dead and carry them on and i just. jesus

god exactly i think about this all the time.. i love Big History in general but definitely language evolution and our ability to “communicate” into the past and future that way is mind boggling 

to get very specific and kind of tangential about this, something that makes me genuinely emotional to think about is u know how there’s like a ton of graffiti that they found and translated from some recently excavated building in what used to be pompeii?? And it’s all like dick jokes and stupid shit like that and also just people writing their names and the latin equivalent of “gaius wuz here” and im like damn we have the capability to remember these people and their words and their humanity thousands of years after their deaths that’s wild i love the Human Story etc
