Mid-Year Reading Recap

Now that June’s about to end it’s time to look upon our reading progress so far this year and share some book opinions! I was tagged by @lorienkittybooks and I promised her I’d do at least one of these.

1. Best book you read so far this year

Daniel Jose Older's Shadowshaper!!! It's my favorite book of all time!!!

2. Worst book you read so far this year

I haven't read any bad books? So least good is closer. Um...hmmm. Lemme check my Goodreads.

Oh, okay. It's a toss-up between Steadfast by Mercedes Lackey, Games Wizards Play by Diane Duane, Mary Poppins and the House Next Door by PL Travers, Rainbow Valley by LM Montgomery, and All Four Stars by Tara Dairman.

Steadfast: I didn't like that the female fire mage was told she can't use her powers on her abusive husband. Games Wizards Play: it tried to be woke, but was very ham-fisted with it. Also Mr. Callahan is still emotionally abusive. Mary Poppins: racist caricatures of a Chinese kid and Friday from Robinson Crusoe Rainbow Valley: they freaking use the n-word!!! I almost had a heart attack All Four Stars: the parents are incredibly abusive and I hate them

3. Completed any series?

YEP! I read both Shadowshaper books, The Valiant Duology by Lesley Livingston, The Wayward Children series (book 4 isn't out yet but I read the other 3), the entire Mary Poppins series (except the cookbook), and all five Memoirs of Lady Trent by Marie Brennan.

4. Anticipated read for the second half of the year

I'm currently in the middle of One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake, The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden, Beauty Queens by Libba Bray, The City of Brass by SA Chakraborty, Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Renegades by Marissa Meyer, and rereading The Voyage of the Basilisk by Marie Brennan. Looking forward to starting A Torch Against the Night, A Reaper at the Gates Children of Blood and Bone, The Belles, Etiquette and Espionage, Dread Nation, and rereading A Darker Shade of Magic so I can blast through the Shades of London trilogy. Also Kingdom of Ash...I guess. Kinda scared, though.

5. A book that disappointed you

None of the books I've read have disappointed me really, but I guess I was hoping that at the end of Beneath the Sugar Sky, Christopher could go back to Mariposa. 

Also they FUCKING KILLED POLYCHROME IN WICKED WILL RISE FUCK THAT SHIT UP THE RECTUM WITH A CACTUS MOTHERFUCKER NOBODY TOUCHES POLYCHROME FUCK OFF FOREVER GLINDA YOU CAN FUCKING DIE YOU FUCKING BLONDE BITCH

6. How many books for have read so far this year?

Like 90 or something. I dunno.

7. A book that made you laugh

Every Heart a Doorway (“Do you mind if a masturbate?” “What, now?”), every Lady Trent memoir, Shadowshaper and Shadowhouse Fall, The Wicked Will Rise, Love Sugar Magic, and the three Jackey Faber books I've read so far.

8. Estimated read count for the year?

I have no idea. I haven't had much time to read the last few days.

It’s fabric!! You get it to fit the right dimensions, and then pin it up with thumb tacks. You hang everything up with cubicle pins after that, and ta-da!!
