light, shout, think?
let's all pretend i'm answering these within a normal window of time from when they were sent <3
light (from drive the wedge, far in the future, in the louisa and river house-hunting together subplot)
“It has to have big windows,” River says. The words come out on impulse and Louisa turns and gives him an odd look like she can’t quite understand what he’s saying, but he means it. Now that the thought has occurred to him, he can’t possibly imagine them moving anywhere without great big windows. (Louisa’s curtains are always open. It strikes River as a little insane, but she keeps them open a lot. She likes to let the light in, she told him once, when she saw him watching her fuss with them. He hadn’t asked, and she’d seemed embarrassed, so she told him. There's never enough light and Louisa sighs about it a lot, grumbles about the stupid shit windows in her flat.)
think (also from drive the wedge. post-rescue, during river's... 'debriefs' with the park. they go um. they go badly.)
“For now, though, all we're doing is breathing.” It’s nonsense. It’s nonsense but Lamb keeps it up, because the nonsense seems to be working — well, for a given definition of working. River isn’t doing worse, and right now, he’ll take it. “It’s a pretty simple ask, I should think even you can manage it.” There's no bite in the words, even if they were ostensibly an insult. Lamb’s hand strokes over River's head, his thumb rubbing gently behind his ear. “Good lad. That's it.”
shout (drive the wedge hat trick! from while river is captive with frank and patrice. included last and under a cut because it is rrrrather violent.)
