Nick Lowe - Hooves on the Roof (2013)
I'm not much of a Christmas song guy but this one hits the spot. Jazzy and witty, it doesn't sound remotely like a Christmas song.

Song Review: Nick Lowe & Los Straightjackets - “Went to a Party”
Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets “Went to a Party” and the 1950s broke out.
The throwback original describes a scene that resembles an indoor safari and lends the title to Low & the Jackets’ forthcoming (Sept. 13) joint, Indoor Safari.
I told myself I wouldn’t stay late/just put a face ’round the door/next time I looked it was comin’ on quarter to 4/and my feet were getting sore, Lowe sings.
There’s nothing modern about “Went to a Party.” And that’s the charm of the surf guitar, the early rock ‘n’ roll melodies and backgrounds and the mindless fun of the cut.

Another RockFest Cruise
Okay so the fish are totally gay but I mean, what music do they listen to?
IN GRAND SNELLY TRADITION, I have decided to make a stupid meandering post about everyone’s favorite gay fish movie, the shape of wine Luca!
So, what music do they listen to? And do they have any guilty pleasures? Well, I’ll only give broad strokes, but let’s dive in!
LUCA PAGURO: TOTALLY listens to Sufjan Stevens, particularly stuff like Palisades , but also later stuff like John, My Beloved. I know, I know it’s cliche, the young soft boy gay kid spending his nights crying to Flint, but c’mon, it’s cliche because it’s true.
GUILTY PLEASURE: He’s also totally into Buddy Holly but don’t tell anyone he thinks that’s square.
ALBERTO SCORFANO: Surf rock, but like more modern stuff, like the Atomic Mosquitos, Man Or Asteroid Man?, and Los Straitjackets. He’s also probably got a penchant for bands like Pansy Division, and maybe even twee bands like Cub.
GUILTY PLEASURE: The Radio Active Chicken Heads but only when he knows no one else is listening.
GIULIA MARCOVALDO: Giulia, in an effort to find something to put on in the background on delivery runs, got super into Post Rock. Not sure how she landed on that, but she’s into, like, Swans and shit. We’re talking Slint and Silver Mount Zion levels of P O S T R O C K. She kinda ended up on it because the chillwave stuff was...too chill. it was putting her to sleep. At least this stuff is spooky and ambient enough to actually keep her motivated, even if that motivation is feeling like you’re being chased by some eldritch horror that will eat your soul and memories if it catches you! That’s...that’s healthy, right?
GUILTY PLEASURE: She likes Mink Car? Like, not even hardcore TMBG fans like Mink Car.
ERCOLE VISCONTI: Ercole listens exclusively to the poppiest pop to ever pop. Chart Toppers ONLY, please!
GUILTY PLEASURE: Oh and also Gorgoroth but he doesn’t talk about that too much.
