lost parallels
Fox Mulder: Scully, after all you've seen, after all you told me you've seen—the tunnel filled with medical files, the beings moving past you, the implant in your neck—why do you refuse to believe? Dana Scully: Believing's the easy part, Mulder. I just need more than you. I need proof. Fox Mulder: You think that believing is easy?
— The X-Files, S03E09, “Nisei”
John Locke: If it's not real, then what are you doing here, Jack? Why did you come back? Why do you find it so hard to believe? Jack Shephard: Why do you find it so easy? John Locke: It's never been easy!
— Lost, S02E03, “Orientation”
lost x elisabeth hewer :~) poem transcript: “In one timeline we kiss but the stars don’t come down. In another you set a world on fire for me but I perish in the flames. Another and we’re strangers on a busy street, brushing by close enough to send each other reeling off balance but not stopping. Somewhere there’s a final space where your hand on my face is the punchy climax to an epic saga, where the way our mouths meet takes the breath right out of people’s throats. One universe has us right, of all the millions stacked on millions. So it’s not this one. I can live with that. The world is full of wonders and a hundred years ago the moon was too much to dream of touching. Look how far we’ve come. Turn over your shoulder and just look. Maybe we’ll come across each other at the turning of the century, racing across the breaches between worlds. I’ll build my life on that maybe.”
I’m slowly coming around to accepting the Sauron reveal. Very, very slowly. I didn’t think I even liked Halbrand all that much, but now I’m mourning the loss of his character and his journey in a way I haven’t since Lost stole John Locke’s resurrection and gave us the Man in Black instead.
These two revelations are actually quite similar, now that I think about it. Both of them gave us an interesting character, both of which were enneagram type 4s (Locke definitely was; Halbrand, I’m less certain but still pretty sure of), then pulled the rug out from under us with the revelation that they were actually the show’s main villain. The main difference, of course, is that there actually was a John Locke who was born, lived a purposeful life (on the Island, at least), and died, while apparently Halbrand was always a fiction.
Huh. Isn’t that odd, now? Never thought I’d be making parallels between Lost and The Rings of Power. Although they did open episode 7 with an extreme close-up of Galadriel’s eye, so maybe this parallel was intentional?
The scene where Danny is going to kill Sawyer has so many parallels that even 20 years later I still don't know if I've caught them all.
Alex who helps them escape that episode ends up taking Sawyers place as the one executed in front of a loved one later in the show.
Kate who was forced to say she loves Sawyer, who reminds her of her father, is made to feel what her mother felt when she found out Kate had killed him.
Danny wants revenge for Coles death at the hands of Sun and is taking it out on Sawyer who didn't actually do anything. Just like Sawyer did when he killed the wrong man in Australia "it'll come back around."
And of course there is Sawyer feeling what his mom felt when she was murdered, but refusing to be like his father and take Kate down with him.
So, if Jaha is John Locke and Murphy is Jack and the City of Light is the Hatch... are they going to have a weird relationship where Murphy is almost an abusive husband while Jaha works out to tracks from the 70s? And is Desmond inside??
They're in a boat together as we speak - need I say more?
As for Desmond, he's pushed the button a lot already - every time he pushes the button, SOMEONE'S DAD GETS FLOATED. He's currently recuperating on the Ark after being almost crushed (physically and metaphorically). ;)
Afflictions
Afflictions, there were afflictions on the island. Richards wife was afflicted.
FBI agent was in a plane crash and survived.
Maggie’s mother disappeared. The survivors, Desmond, disappeared.
The virus is a mutated version of the Spanish flu, found in birds. Sickness was on the island, Richard was Spanish, birds on the island.
23 percent mortality rate
Bellamy tells the agent to get a tattoo. Jacks tattoo.
Ray says he has 7 8 10 at the most. Serving coffee doesn’t count
Maggie cant breathe, Shannon had a hard time breathing
Bellamy tries to escape from the hospital room. Charlie tried to escape from the hospital.
Bellamy finds a white board with complicated equations written on it like Faraday’s.
The board with a map in Angela’s office shows airplane crashes around the world.
There are 8 patients waiting to be examined for signs of the virus.
All Fred mother wants to do is fix things. Jack wanted to fix things.
Bellamy is given vaccinations. Claire and Desmond were taking vaccinations.
Angela was hired because she can predict what can happen. Eloise could see the future.
Numbers are perfect. The numbers.
Bellamy is bagged and drugged. The Others bagged people and knocked them out.
Torn Apart
The returned are meeting up at the church. The survivors met up at the church.
THres no cell signal in the gym. there was no cell signal on the island.
Theres a list of returned. The list of candidates.
