In my quest to find a laundromat close to our Con hotel, I came across The Lost Sock on Rampart.
This is a really cool place.
Yes, you can get your clothes clean there, but it's not just a laundromat. It's also a gallery and arts venue, because this is New Orleans and of course it is. What's even cooler, though, is what this building used to be. From 1947-1956 this was the home of J&M Recording Studios. Inside these walls some of the greats, including Fats Domino and Little Richard, laid down some of the tracks that we know and love them for. A good argument could be made for this laundromat as a contender for being the birthplace of rock and roll.
The Lost Sock is a little more than a half mile from the Royal Sonesta, across the street from New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park and about a block away from Congo Square.
Whose sock are you and what are you doing it my washing machine?
The man on the radio is the usual Saturday man on the radio with the usual music, the usual run through of the newspaper headlines and the usual quiz that I don't know the answer to.
There's brilliant sunshine and chirpy chirpy birdsong but no sign of Snow White, so I guess I'll be making my own coffee and breakfast. At least if she's not here, then those 7 small gentlemen that tend to follow her won't be coming to cause chaos in the kitchen again. Phew!
Today's groaner: what do you call a dog magician? A Labracadabrador! ;-D badoom tish ... here all week!!
The Rooks nest that fell down some weeks back has finally disintegrated. The remains are happily resting on a pallet and the couple that built it are still happily residing in a nearby tree. One chick has been successfully raised. I smile to myself each time I walk beneath the tree they're in as there's a large pile of discarded twigs from their nest building efforts that I always forget are there ... until I trip over them. Silly, clumsy hooman they're probably thinking each time I do it.
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday ... newspaper day and the usual Groundhog Day TV Guide. Keeping the coffee coming whilst contemplating life, the Universe and where the single sock on the kitchen table came from ...
