my lost hot take is that walt SHOULD NOT be the next protector of the Island and the concept that Hurley and Ben picked him up to teach him how to become one is Bad.

yes, he has a unique connection to the island sure but holy fuck he is a traumatized child who has not even come close to healing from all the shit that went down around him. Being island protector is a stupid hard job with a lifelong responsibility that you literally have to die for. The immortals hate being immortal and lose their humanity (Man In Black, Richard wanted to die until he became mortal again, etc.).

Walt is nottt old enough to be approached for the purpose of one day making him become the new protector !!! Let that poor child heal and have time to become his own person first. Also I’m generally a sucker for Hurley and Ben being the #1 and #2 of the Island for a long time and it doesn’t feel fitting that theyd throw the responsibility on the nearest person who might be qualified.

i’m watching lost for the first time (on episode 15) and i swear if walt dies i’m gonna be so fucking pissed
