Thunder Bringer
Reached the LB1 finale, but the Anastasia bossfight is locking me, so I'll talk about Salieri's big moment in the meanwhile.
God, I love what they did with Antonio Salieri in FGO. I guess history buffs at the time were anxious about whether the game would fall prey to the rumors about his life and hoped they'd go for a more accurate depiction (not without reason, lmao), but the writers said "Why not both?" and made it work.
He did not kill Mozart, yet the world believed so, and he had to comply. He became a monster unwillingly, accused of a crime he'd never dare commit. And fed by the hatred both towards the world and himself, he became an Avenger.
The story gives him his moment at the climax of the First Lostbelt. The main group is fighting its King, Ivan the Terrible, a mountain-sized beast with godly powers, the very will of Yaga Russia made manifest. The only reason they have a fighting chance at all is because Mozart bought them time with his immeasurable talent. The unbridled joy in his melodies kept Ivan the Terible asleep in a peaceful dreamland, but he only lasted until a point. And when he disappeared, no one else in that Lostbelt could appease the tsar's soul, not even Salieri.
Yes, Salieri could never hope to do what Mozart did. He knew that better than anyone else and he hated himself for it. Judged himself a failure, incapable of measuring to the impossible odds at hand, utterly devoid of the happiness that Mozart's music brought. But what is it that Mozart tells him?
"I don't care. Do it anyway."
It sounds arrogant, coming from the man who did the feat Salieri could never replicate, but it was exactly what he needed to hear. Salieri needed to forget about measuring up to Mozart. Forget about trying to imitate his genius, forget about trying to emulate his joyful playing. Mozart was the only one who could pacify the tsar, but Salieri never needed to be Mozart. He only needed to be Salieri and offer the one thing Salieri had that no one would ever come close to:
Rage.
Pure unbridled rage poured onto every single note, the kind of rage you would only find in a monster forced by the world itself to commit what he'd consider the most despicable act of all. Instead of calming Ivan's soul, it ended up making even a force of nature like him stagger in the face of Salieri's wrathful music. It gave everyone the chance they needed.
It's not an exaggeration to say Salieri's rage saved the world. Not bad for an Avenger, right?
funny little comic i made while finishing lb1 [ft musashi with my mastersona, and gudako being remy the rat]
Flipping through story logs for hitherto-overlooked blorbo material -
Jesus Christ!
I think it’s very sexy of Ivan the Terrible to turn all the population of Russia into furries
Hi, I came across a Billy post you made 2 years ago and wanted to ask, do you have a screenshot of the dialogue where he calls Ritsuka beautiful? I was curious about the context. By chance does he change it depending on gender or does that not matter?
It’s this exchange! I didn’t have mine on my phone anymore, but it’s near the end of LB1 so I found it again pretty quick. There’s a lot of other really cute Billy stuff around the same time for more context:
God love him. Anyway, I know he says the Sleeping Beauty line about both, and I think he flirts with both? But no one I found until I found someone playing as female Ritsuka on YouTube was picking the flirt options as Ritsuka, so I can’t say for sure. I’d really expect it’s both, though.
