The Bean | Afternoon
Since Keith had been able to secure some gainful employment from Derek helping out at the garage, he had been doing a little bit better. He still spent his nights with alcohol, getting in drunken fights, but overall he had seemed a little more focused. There was something about working and learning about the engines and the inner mechanics that kept his brain and hands busy -- it didn’t seem as dull and boring as taking orders and serving at Mickey’s.
That whole ordeal still baffled Keith. According to his brother, the burning of the building had been deemed an arson attack, and with everything else going on in the town, Keith wondered when the action would end up imploding. He was still worried that Matt had done it himself, and what it was that Keith could do to keep the teen out of trouble. Keith had fucked up, but he never fucked up that big. As far as the law was concerned, this was a whole new ballgame and he didn’t know the rules.
The stress of everything had taken it’s toll, and he and his mother were fighting more and more. He would never forgive her for the dreaded words she once spoke: Why can’t you just be more like Jason? Ever since then his drinking had gotten out of control, to the point of riding his motorcycle drunk and crashing it, landing him with a hospital visit courtesy of Lexi. But, since Derek had been willing to have Keith work off the cost of the bike, and then given him a job on top of that, he felt it was a good time to start looking for another place to live. Somewhere outside the reach of the tensions of the relationship with his mom.
Looking down at several circled places on his phone app and the paper, he groaned, resting his head on the table in front of him.
