Am I Dreaming?

Prompt: Based on an AU where you see your soul mate in your dream and then finally meet them IRL.

He can’t remember when it started, but Richie always saw the same person in every one of his dreams. It was weird to him, in a profound way. 

He never really spoke to the other boy who treaded through Richie’s dreams; uncovering secrets, bringing light to Richie’s nightmares and genuinely making Richie glad he had the ability to dream.

It was weeks before he actually built up the courage to talk to the strange boy around his age that invaded his dreams each night. 

He was short, and carried a fanny pack everywhere, Richie never saw him without it. His hair was pushed up, short, and out of his face.

He approached him slowly, not quite sure how the boy would react; he treated him in the same manner someone would a wild animal. 

His approach was thoughtful and planned out, too bad his words weren’t the same.

‘Mind telling me what the fuck you think you’re doing in me dream?’ Richie wouldn’t be able to pinpoint the exact origin of his trash mouth, but it was there and he wasn’t too proud of it.

The smaller boy turns to look at Richie, who notices a watch on his wrist. It looks expensive.

‘I was just gonna ask you the same thing, asshole.’ The boy responds.

‘Wait, you’re in my fucking dream, dude.’

‘No, you’re in mine.’

‘Do you know who you’re talking to, jack ass?’ Richie questions, adjusting his glasses.

‘Yeah, a right pain in my fucking ass.’ The stranger responds.

‘I’m Richie Tozier you piece of shit.’

‘Well, I’m Eddie Kaspbrak you fucking douchebag.’

Neither of them could keep a straight face for long before they were laughing hysterically, swearing at each and messing around. Pulling pranks and running through the endless world of Richie’s dreams.

Richie loved the nights Eddie visited him in his dreams and hated the nights Eddie was missing from them; he wondered if he’d find someone like Eddie in real life, away from his mind and if he would ever have that kind of connection with someone else.

Summer had ended that year and they were back in class, if there was one thing Richie hated more than School, it would be being picked to look after the new kid. 

He was pulled out of first period and taken to the principles office, being asked to show a new boy around. 

The first thing Richie noticed was his watch, it looked expensive. 

The next thing he noticed was he fanny pack. 

It couldn’t be? Could it?

‘What the fuck.’ Richie spills, exaggerating the ‘u’s’. ‘What the actual fuck.’

‘Mr. Tozier!’ The principal barks.

‘Dude what the fuck.’ Eddie breathes out. ‘What in the ever loving fuck.’

Richie feels like he’s going to faint, is this what it feels like to faint? Or is this fear? What’s happening, he can’t quite understand. Maybe he’s dreaming? Is he dreaming? 

He pinches Eddie on the forearm, the younger boy yelps in surprise and pain.

‘What the fuck was that!’ He yells.

‘I had to make sure I wasn’t dreaming!’ Richie yells back.

‘You’re meant to pinch yourself, you fucking moron!’ Eddie reaches over and punches Richie, just above his wrist. 

Richie pulls his hand away and shoved Eddie.

‘Dude that fucking hurt!’

‘You pinched me first, Richie!’ Eddie shouts.

Even though his wrist hurt, at least Richie knew this time, he wasn’t dreaming.
