The Last Leaf of Autumn
Few attended the funeral of Lotho Sackville-Baggins.
For Back to Middle-earth Month 2026, Day 9! Today I used the Bingo cards from 2012's Bingo Bash event to write a sad little ficlet about Lobelia in the days after the Scouring of the Shire. The prompts I used were "order, cascade, small, dogwood," Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, and Funeral/Wake.

Who is the stupidest character in the Lord of the Rings?
Saruman (Has a very stupid plan in which there is only one way he benefits)
Gríma (Cunning but also has very risky plans which do not really benefit him)
Shelob (Underestimates Sam, literally helps him take her down)
Bill Ferny (Gains no benefits from whatever he had planned except some money
Denethor II (Smart yes, but thinks only he can see the truth. Also Faramir)
The Mouth of Sauron (Very spoiled, is really sad when people don't listen)
Castamir (In the calm setting after winning a civil war you alienate the people)
Earnur (Goes to Minas Morgul after recieving 2 invitations)
Baldor (Vows to go to the Dwimorberg after having one to many beers)
Lotho (Invites the ruffians to help him without thinking about the consequences)
Stupid, not dumb. Appendices count.
A recurring theme with this people is people making enemies with everyone.
So, I got the new Pokémon game and I’m naming my Pokémon trainer Frodo because I am going to run around and collect all the strays I can!
OOOOHOOOHOHOO I know I hinted at it a few months back, but I actually got to participate in the Monster Lovers Zine! Here's a teensy preview of my page, and here's the link to peorder your very own copy!
My page features Lotho and his gal Evangeline
Guys it was so hard keeping this one to myself. So hard.
I've been following you for so many years now :0 I enjoy and admire your artwork immensely and have to ask: how do you go about making the skulls and skeletons for your creature designs? I'm interested in making my own and I'm not sure where to start.
Hey thanks! I usually try to wing it on my creature skulls/skelletons because I have a vague aproxamation of bone knowledge. But I'll show you my process when I wanna do a quick bone view!
I start off with a pretty basic view of my oc, lets use Lotho here:
Wow, boring profile view
I have a vague idea of how I want his bone structure to look like kinda, big muscular jaw, sharp angles with that distinctive curve to his nose and brow.
It screams tiger to me
So I do a quick google search for tiger skull, I always pick a few good views. Typically from angles so I can see the shapes and lines of the bones.
This is like one of six I referenced,
From bone clones it gave me a good shot of that zygomatic arch.
But I always like to look at open jaws too, or ones missing the lower part so you can see how the teeth fit the heck into that mouth.
And honestly I'm no expert. I admit that whole hartedly. Which is why once I have my references I just finagle my way through it until I have something that looks vaguely like a working skull.
As such
By no means accurate, but it gives me basic structure ideas on how this big asshole functions. So I guess the take away is, references will save you a lot of trouble in the placement of things, but ultimately it is up to you how to fit the elements into their place on your creature! Ultimately just have fun with it!
