SURPRISE! i'm lore posting. admirabilis age.
ok hnk tumblrinas, let's talk. i was discussing this in discord earlier, and someone brought up 20-25 years as a lifespan for the admirabilis, and mentioned that they'd seen that figure repeated through the fandom and had assumed it was from some lore or interview material. i can't say anything for interviews, but it's not in the lore book. SO:
here is the information about admirabilis lifespans we get from the manga:
1) admirabilis count generations as being somewhere around 20-25 years. this is marked in two places: firstly, in chapter 51 (vol. 7), variegatus describes ventricosus' return from the moon as having happened 5 generations before her. this is something like 102 years afterwards, so you do the math. secondly, in chapter 76 (vol. 10), when describing the admirabilis' situation, it is described that the admirabilis chose to immigrate to the moon "two generations" prior to ventricosus, and that this happened when phos was around 250 years old; i.e 50 years prior to ventricosus' return.
2) during her speaking appearance (chapters 7-10, vol. 2) ventricosus outright says she was born on earth, and refers to earth's ocean as her home & speaks about wishing to return (implying it's her personal origin) there many times. aculeatus does not contradict this.
this information feels contradictory, and of course it wouldn't be the manga's only plot hole. that being said... generation CAN refer to "the average period... ...during which children are born and grow up, become adults, and begin to have children." in humans this is noted as 20-30 years, which is pretty similar. (quote and figure from wikipedia). though, "generations before ventricosus" could imply ventricosus was born on the moon.
the main support for a human-like lifespan (beyond the similarity in generation span) is ventricosus' implied age—or at least her implied age if she's telling the truth. we know the admirabilis were on the moon for 50 years, so if she's earth-born, she'd be over 50 years old (so clearly, admirabilis don't have menopause, or they have it later... also, wow, she sure doesn't look it).
THAT BEING SAID... it could very well be folly on the part of the author! there's 74 chapters and like 5 years between ventricosus' appearance and the 50 year figure, and as i said, it wouldn't be the only plot hole. generations also seem to refer to the reigns of different rulers, and we don't know how that relates to lifespan at all (though variegatus seems quite young).
in conclusion, based SOLELY ON MANGA INFO, one can argue textual support for either lifespan. but i'd like to know if anyone has further sources of information that tip this one way or another!
