Fighting scammers over the phone is so confounding, like they're conning you and you know that so you are going to con them by taking up their time. But once you reveal that to them, they're gonna double down for a moment 'cause they're scared. Then they are going to insult you to try and prey on your empathy and hurt your feelings so you listen to them again.
No, "Mr. Donald Peterson", I did not register with the Megamillions jackpot 7 months back. Furthermore, if I did, you'd have more than my phone number. You'd know my name.
Me: "I'm tired of playing with this scam. Why are you trying to hurt people?"
Them: "No ma'am! This is not a scam!"
Me: "I specialize in cyber security for a federal institution, please don't do this."
Them: "Don't lie, ma'am. Don't be a liar. You don't work for the government. Lying is bad."
Me: "You first! You stop lying. And anyway, you are missing the point- I am a software developer with a special interest in anti-theft counter measures."
Them: "-Ma'am! You are wasting my time. You are a waste of time."
Me: "Well that's not nice-"
Them: "YOU ARE A WASTE OF TIME"
Me: "It really sounds like you have some baggage you are projecting onto me. Do you want me to recommend you a therapy clinic?"
Like, I'm torn. I HATE bullies. But also it's interactions like that that remind me they are just scared people, ya know?
Also...damn...it would be really nice if I actually won a large sum of money...😮💨
