This tunic is getting its own persona story. Viking-era, made in Sweden, where more green was used than other viking lands, and patched in Ireland, where more purple was used. It's really linen, but its persona is wool. And Jorvik used more red than other viking places, so maybe the thread came from there. I'm going my memory on the colours, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read a few years ago. I *think* the green came from birch, and I'm fairly sure the purple was from lichen, and probably much pinker than this purple. I know there also used to be purple from sea shells created in Ireland, but the evidence I know of was much earlier. Maybe bronze age? The mundane truth is that I could find neither the armpit gusset that I'd already cut out, nor the green fabric to cut a new one when I was packing for Raglan. #mySCA #drachenwald #raglan #raglancastle #ffairrhaglen #sewing #wip #imadethis #makedoandmake #insulaedraconis #mynyddgwyn #medievalcamping https://ift.tt/2MRW5ph
