WEAPONS OF SELF-PRESERVATION
I. Breathe, my child. Air will do you no harm.
II. Hug the trunk of a secular tree. Give it your whole body, your full momentum to remind yourself that beauty is not just soft and slight and pastel-coloured, but bold firm majestic wise.
III. Savour the smell of your food before you eat. I know, too many times food turns to ash on your tongue and you wonder why are you trying at all. But the richness and strength of its scent how it clings to the air, how it encompasses your nose will remind you that goodness is persistent, goodness is pervasive.
IV. Do not be afraid of your tears: they are salt like the sea they will keep you afloat.
V. When you think you’re alone, count the fingers on your hands. Relentlessly they have carried you this far they have woven the fabric of your life. Your hands, they create connections if you extend them you will find other hands ready to hold yours.
VI. And if you feel like you’re drowning remember that since you were born you have known how to swim. Remember and breathe.
