Heya Lou! :D Thanks for swinging by ~ For this ask game 7- What is your favorite boss fight? YES THANK YOU FOR ASKING ME THIS. TWILIGHT PRINCESS. STALLORD. The combat itself is not that complex but it's about the EXPERIENCE. The timing of using the spinner to launch at the skull that mocks you. The artful skateboarding around the zombies that swarm at the base. The music that pulses in your soul all the way through. It's an experience you can't get anywhere else and that's what makes a good Zelda boss fight to me: "What makes this unique and memorable and feels satisfying to conquer when you finally achieve victory?" Also, I think it's epic that Stallord is such a fun boss that they brought it back for Link's Crossbow Training, and mixed up the mechanics so now you're sniping the weak spot on the palms. BEAUTIFUL. Honorary mention as well to Phantom Ganon from OoT. Once again, the experience. The thrill of having your bowstring tight, ready to loose, keeping your Hylian ears perked for telltale noises that would give away your enemy's position. And then the way he CHARGES out of the canvas with his fiery eyes gleaming...after that temple full of ghosts, your nerves on edge the whole time...now it culminates in the rush of defeating this shell of your foe so that he may no longer spy on you and no longer torment your Kokiri home.... 13- What is your favorite dungeon/temple? You're not gonna believe this, Scully, but it's the WATER TEMPLE. Yes, that Water Temple, from OoT. 😎 I never understood why people were like "Ughhhhhh I hate this place" because that dungeon was SO easy for me and I had a blast with it. It's a peaceful place to be, I love changing the levels of the water, the Morpha fight is excellent, and fighting your reflection in Dark Link is such a memorable moment and an important event for the Hero of Time.

There were some other titles that intrigued me but... I am forever desperate to hear anything about This Child of Mine

I mean here's the thing, every time I have new ideas about this fic you're usually the first to know 😅 I have no idea what I haven't already told you!

At this point I think I really need to replay botw with the whole story in mind. There are so many moments that I want to highlight and want to make sure that they're fresh in my mind.

I think a general comment about TCoM though... I learned so much about myself working on that story. There are so many things that came through in my writing that were vital to my understanding of my mental health journey, my anxieties and fears about the future. It was also my first real attempt at a long fic and I'm so proud of what I accomplished in my first real attempt at a long form story. I want to come back with fresh eyes and a fresh love for the story and everything I've learned about myself and as a writer. Now that I'm on the other side of a major mental health mountain, I want to see how that shapes the story.

22. do you have a favorite color palette to work with?

I really like working with warm palettes and often end up putting a layer of soft yellow on top with a saturation setting to brighten the piece💛

23. how many artstyles can you work in confidently?

hmm i guess 2? I have a slightly more detailed style for fuller illustrations and a more doodle-y style for comics and stuff. (And then a really ugly extra simple style for pen doodle comics lol.) Altho I supposed those are not necessarily separate styles but like registers/levels of the same style? And they’re pretty tied to the medium as well! Digital pencil brush vs digital pen brush vs physical pen and paper

Zelda Suite Studio???

and if it's okay to ask for more than one... Untitled WIP #9?

Hi Lou! Thank you for asking!

For the Zelda Suite studio project, I've been working on the Zelda suite for about two years. I played it on my undergrad senior recital with a harpist last year, and for my first master's recital this year, I got the opportunity to perform it with a full band, and it was really magical! I was already planning on making a (home) studio recording of the Zelda suite with just me and a synthesized backtrack for a while, but synthesizers wouldn't be the same after playing with real musicians. So I decided it was worth it to reach out to them about collaborating again on the (home) studio version of the suite! (Being an introvert who hates bothering people, it was a bit nerve wracking, but they all seemed happy to play again.) I'm currently working on click tracks to send to everyone for remote recording, so I don't have much to actually show yet, haha 😅 Anyways, please stay tuned, because I'm planning a lot more with the Zelda suite and I'm really excited!

Link was quite talented with hair, Zelda knew--perhaps a little too talented, always being enlisted by the ladies of the village for an updo or some other elaborate haircut, and she usually didn't mind.

Except for this time, as she rummaged around their house mumbling, "Oh, where is my hairbrush?"

And when she finally decided to confront Link about it, having an idea of where her hairbrush might be, she found him sitting by the river surrounded by the village children as he braided the hair of a young girl--and she didn't mind after all, she thought, and placed her hand over her belly.

Made up fic title: A Little Bit of Longing

I've been letting this one stew today...

I think this would be a post-Calamity fic, Link's POV.

So in this fic, Link would not really know himself well enough to interpret his own feelings on-the-fly, immediately? And I don't mean this in the sense that he doesn't know because he woke up with no memories. I mean it more, like, as a core part of him. So, it takes him a while to look back and interrogate his reactions and feelings to things. This would've been true for him pre-Calamity too. I hope this is making sense?

Zelda and Link defeat Ganon and then, whoa, there she is, this new person in his life. He starts feeling all kinds of things, but he actually doesn't really know how to interpret them?

These things confuse him, it affects how he interacts with her. They have bright moments and then moments of miscommunications, little fights.

Eventually he gets so frustrated that he has a conversation with Impa. Impa patiently asks him a lot of questions and when he's forced to say things out loud, he suddenly realizes what's going on: he's developed feelings for her.

Zelda makes him all flustered, happy, frustrated, excited, etc., but he's been slow to interpret what his reactions actually mean?

Once he realizes, he doesn't leap right away into confessions: he's only just figured out what's going on in his head and heart after all! He needs some time to understand himself and rework how he's been interacting with Zelda.

But it becomes obvious to him, now that he knows. And this is where we get to a Little Bit of Longing because then he's just into full pining mode, now he's actively aware of it.

Of course, there'd be a very sweet scene where they'd have their first kiss. Link does manage to express himself to her, Zelda teases him a little because she's finally pieced together what his deal is. They're cute together, yay!

So... tbh, something like this fic probably exists, lol But oh well! Now here it is in idea format, lol

I am curious about Raven Dekuson!

Lol how did I know you would ask about one of the Deku Tree Link WIP's, Lou 😏 THANK YOU FOR ASKING, I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THIS AU For this ask game OKAY SO I don't think I've talked to you about Raven Dekuson before.......... So, let's remedy that. FIRST THING TO KNOW: My "Deku Tree Link AU" is one of what I call my "megafics." Which means: it is not a oneshot. ;) "To Take Up the Crown" is the story that is the "main" story, I guess you could say? It was certainly the one that started it all. OoT Link, the Hero of Time, is one of the most famous Deku Tree Link's that there is, and that there ever will be. (whispers) But he is not the only one. ! —And now, my excuse to talk about my beloved obscure blorbo who only lives in the Zelda manga: SIR RAVEN from the ALttP ORACLE OF AGES manga by Akira Himekawa 🔥 ALttP was a typo and I'm not gonna say why because Sparrow lore but whoops my mistake

Raven is...I love him. To put it simply, I love him. When I read this manga for the first time yeeeears ago, I instantly formulated a bunch of headcanons for this dude in my own personal Zelda timeline. (Yes, I do have one, and yes, I made it to spite Nintendo's infamous attempt at one lol.) You're a reader, so I know this'll make sense: You know the feeling when you're reading a book and there's this One Character who just has such a strong voice that you can't help but read every line of dialogue of theirs in their voice instead of your primary reading-narrator-thought-voice? That's what happened with Raven. Hence why I love him so much: his character always jumped off the panels for me and I could see so much more of his story than the manga ever went into. I always wanted to explore that galactic frontier of narrative potential. And now, I'm officially publishing my fics instead of keeping them to myself. And now I can finally put that personal timeline and those deep headcanons and everything and everything to good use for my Deku Tree Link AU. :) :) :) I'm so excited. Before you assume, because I know it seems to be teased: No, Raven is NOT one who was chosen to bear the title of "Great Deku Tree." Sorry to disappoint. However, he is VERY important to the overall Deku Tree Link timeline, so I don't believe he will disappoint you after all. Raven's role is...unique. He's fun. I like watching him in action on the page. He's very important. You might have noticed his name is Raven Dekuson. Raises a lot of questions, yes? You'll learn more about his surname, don't worry. His surname is not to be taken lightly in his story. Before I publish Raven's own story, I really gotta wrap up To Take Up the Crown...but I am a plantser, and the way I personally work means I have to write the stories simultaneously, as the Deku Tree Link AU worldbuilding continues to, well, flourish. 🌱 This storyworld, this megafic, is one that I love to explore and develop and worldbuild and daydream about. I can't wait to share this entire universe someday. Thanks for the hype in the meantime, while intense work goes down behind the scenes. Your interest in this world is SO much appreciated.
