nowhere in canon does it actually say that abbachi got his stand from polpo’s trial (afaik) and i am going to take that fact and run with it into the night

abbacchio has been a stand user since childhood, though never one powerful enough to cause the stand to manifest fully and become capable of interaction. as a child & teen, leone only knew that at times he saw something it seemed no one else could, and generally chalked it up as ‘ill worry about that later’ since he tended to have bigger thoughts in his head than occasional glimpses of a figure from the corner of his eye.

stands manifest through force of will and the reflection of some part of the soul and personality, so-- moody blues, with its one capability to rewind, became capable of materializing fully upon the death of abbacchio’s partner as a sort of exchange; abbacchio loses a majority of the personality traits that made him and gained the corporeal version of his will to undo his own idiocy.

unfortunately, it couldn’t really help him after the fact. while abbacchio was in prison awaiting trial, one of the guards figured out he was a stand user. said individual happened to be paid off by passione itself, and word of a stand user ex-cop was funneled back through the gang until it happened to reach buccellati.

abbacchio never went through with polpo’s loyalty trial, as it was uncertain what would happen and how bad it would be if a stand user was stabbed by the arrow a second time. it was assumed that he didn’t have anywhere else to go & generally lacked will of his own that there wasn’t a need to be unduly concerned about him running off.
