hello! ✨ I was wondering what procreate brushes you typically use? Your drawings are so soft and elegant, and I was deeply curious about your process. Do you have any speed paints by chance?
Thank you for the kind words!
I usually go through a bunch of different brushes depending on what effect I want to achieve.
These are the ones I use pretty frequently at the moment.
As for my process and speedpaints. Uh. I am very self conscious about that... I don't have the guts to post a speedpaint because my process really boils down to me messing around the entire time and hoping for the best so there's a lot of mistakes along the way <:|
But here. I made this small drawing (everyone say hi to Klementyna who's our test subject here) to show the main steps in my process.
First thing I do is change the background to a neutral color because I don't like working on white. Why? The brightness hurts my eyes... (and also makes it harder for me to pick the right colors later)
Basically I start with doing a very rough sketch of what I want to do and then I clean it up. Sometimes I manage to make a pretty clean sketch so I don't always need to do the second step. After that I do some base colors for the drawing and I change the lineart to an overlay so that it's not as harsh. For the base colors I like to start with just one and put it on the whole character and then add the other ones on top of it.
When coloring my main thing is alternating between drawing under and over the lineart. So for example in base colors I do the hair over the lineart (it makes it look a bit more soft to me).
Next part is adding textures. This stuff I do over the lineart so that it becomes less and less harsh and turns more soft. I mainly do textures by just doing different types of small lines in varying shades (for some parts I do bigger patches of color instead of lines, for example the blush on her face). I also like messing with different layer settings. I don't always do it but if I do it's mainly for doing lights and shadows (in here I used the setting that's called "brightness" but this is translated from Polish so idk if that's the actual name in the english version).
Sometimes if I'm struggling with colors I use the different overlays to help me decide what shades to use. It's a whole mess.
And at the end if I'm not doing any background but want the thing to look more refined I use a solid colour to just block the background. I usually do this on the top most layer cause I can also cover up bits of the lineart like this.
My whole drawing process is really just testing thing out and seeing what works. It's still changing as I learn new tricks and techniques. I still have a long way to go haha.
