( ciswoman | she/her/hers | medalion rahimi) —— isn’t that JAMIE DOBBS-SHAFIQ? yeah that is them, sitting there at the RAVENCLAW table with those other FIFTH years. when sybill looks into that crystal ball of hers, she sees a bloody lip, torn dresses, sneaking around late at night, piles of investigative newspapers, a wallflower disposition, and constant looks over her shoulder. anyway i’ve heard they’re pretty QUIET, DOUBTFUL, and RECLUSIVE. apparently they’re a VENIT TEMPESTAS and HALFBLOOD but i’m sure that’s not related. —— [ oops]

The Shafiqs were a proud pureblood line, so proud that any member who did not confine themselves to the processes they found ideal were immediately ousted. So Helene was excommunicated from the family line when she ran away with Arman Dobbs, a muggle from Cornwall. 

The couple had only Jamie, shy but adventurous and witty Jamie. She never met any of her pureblood family, a reality that her mother kept hidden from her. It stayed that way until she boarded the Hogwarts express for the first time. Rumors circulated that Jamie Dobbs was indeed one of the Shafiqs. Cousins gave her distant stares, remarked by the presence of one Jamie. 

She didn’t know any of the past, so when the Shafiqs learned that the Dobbs family had moved somewhere up north it was not long until they were trying to bring back Helene. Months passed until suddenly, Julie’s parents were not sending letters anymore.

Just before Christmas Holiday, Jamie was sent to the Headmasters Office where she was sat at a long table with many ministry officials and others whom she did not recognize. Indeed, both Helene and Arman were found dead in their home. Jamie was a ward of the Ministry, to be placed in the care of her cousins. 

Her pureblood family “so graciously accepted her into their home” that Christmas holiday and thus began her indoctrination. Jamie was young, she didn’t get it yet. 

The Shafiqs intended for Jamie to reclaim her blood purity, denounce her mother and father.  And with enough....persuasion that did seem to be the case. 

Additionally, she was told who to associate with, who to befriend, where to go, and the frightened child just began to do it. She was even made to go by Jamie Shafiq, Dobbs was no longer part of her identity. Resistance was broken down and suddenly that seemed to be who she was. 

Jamie is stuck now, questioning the morality of everything she learned from a past she can barely remember to lessons taught by her aunts and uncles. 

Facts

Nowadays, Jamie is a little more aware of what happened to her. She’s questioning how she came to this belief system in the first place

She is very much a loner

Dark arts came naturally to her, she’s just gifted with most wand work. This is something that is beginning to frighten her as she doesn’t understand the full extent of her capabilities.

She’s made new friends recently, ones that are helping her navigate a corrupted moral compass- not that she could just tell them that

She loves reading more than anything, for those few hours things are calm and quiet. The books aren’t asking her to pick sides, telling her what to think, or who to talk to

She was essentially molded into the perfect ideal pureblood daughter, save for her ability to boil in her own anger for days at a time

Her emotional control can be impressive and its something that eventually helps her navigate where it is she wants to be. 

She’s a fast talker, she can speak in witticisms and frank one liners that not all appreciate

Depending on how she goes, I think she may want to go by Jamie Dobbs if she gets away from the Shafiqs

One other potential thing I’m considering is having her investigate what happened to her parents

I think she’s gonna develop a little better over time!

Bullying, isolating and harassing people is not the way to fix bullying. Don’t bully the bullies, that’s not how the World works and it is certainly not the way to fix things. It takes one popular person to say one bad thing about somebody online and people grab their torches, all guns blazing towards that person. Don’t become as bad as that person or even worse. You do not fight fire with fire. Remember that.
