Not everything is about Romance!

I'm currently reading a book series in which every character is involved in a romance. Which never happens in real life. Not everyone is going to find the one in the space of a year. Every romance seems forced. There's not even a love triangle in sight! They all have their one person and none of the main character are even slightly attracted to the same sex. It's a great story but the love everywhere is so very unrealistic.

I’d like to do a different kind of love story thread: Muse A and Muse B have a child (or children) together. After years of trying to make it work, the two fall out of love. Through the divorce, they relive how they fell in love. 

Possible outcomes: 

They continue with the divorce only to have the flame reignited a few months/years later. 

The flame is reignited during the divorce, only to have Muse B confess that they are having an affair with Muse C

Literally anything else you want to do.

WHY DOES DIVERGENT HAVE A LOVE PLOT!? AND WHY IS THAT LOVE PLOT SO FUCKING AWKWARD! IT'S LIKE VERONICA ROTH WROTE A COMPELLING STORY AND THEN WAS LIKE "Whoops! I forgot a cheesy love plot!" AND KIND OF JUST SHOVED IT IN THERE.

I don't even care that I fall for the love stories in horror movies/tv. it's usually the best kind of love story because there's always something sick or twisted about it... plus all the mushy stuff is cushioned with gore ꒪̆౪̮꒪̆
