anyone else think the coaster ride is so missable is 'cause it's such first date material? in the right circumstances, adrenaline could be confused for butterflies, and if v's with the right person at the right time, slotted with the right relic coded with the right engram..
besides, it's such a normal first date idea. like, teenagers take their first dates to theme parks. you're telling me v stumbled upon this broken-down coaster and johnny begged -- uh, bugged v until they reset the breaker box? and you're telling me more; that johnny sat right in front with them, gripping the safety harness and smiling over at v, betting they'll scream like a little girl? dude.
y'know what, though? night city and the surrounding nomad territory is so hostile to all life that roller-coasters are probably a thing of the past -- left in the 2060s along with the GIM. johnny can count on one hand the amount of times he's been on one, and it's up in the air if this is v's first ride. whatever the case, johnny can feel the quickness of their heart and the adrenaline spike the moment the ride starts with a cuh… ca-chunk!
"can feel your heart goin' wild," johnny teases. "you wanna hold my hand?"
v scoffs and rolls their eyes, but when the ride turns and starts tilting upwards, they grip the harness harder. they've faced shootouts and highway chases and human trafficking rings -- but, yeah, riding a coaster for the first or second time is a little scary.
"can you be fucking serious?" v hisses. it's not so much a hiss as it is a thickly veiled 'yeah, okay, can you hold my hand now?' through gritted teeth.
johnny reaches over and positions his hand the best he can to look like he's holding v's hand. his arm clips through the harness and somewhat through v's skin, but it's the thought that counts. the touch makes v's hand tingle; it creeps up their arm, making their heart beat even quicker. even though it feels like v's ribcage is about to crack, suddenly, things seem a little less scary. the sky seems a bit bluer, and johnny's smile seems to be just that little bit wider.
