Loved Track #23 - Jens Lekman - A Postcard to Nina

Do I love this song: Yes

This song is a certified classic. None of you all were outside for it though.

Jens Lekman is such a dope lyricist. He’s coming from that Stuart Murdoch/Colin Meloy school of highly literate, storytelling lyrics. He puts ironic, pitiful spins on the stories on this album, which adds to the charm. On this song, he’s posing as a lesbian’s boyfriend, because her conservative father wouldn’t approve of her homosexuality. It was 2007.

The music itself sounds like it’s straight from 60′s soul, and the “ooooh” backing vocals really sell that. I played this song for my mom back in the day and she actually kind of liked it.

This song has the most heartfelt message to it, you really get the feeling that he’d stick his neck out for Nina. The end of this song is super fun, too.

Loved Track #22 - Every Avenue - Where Were You

Do I love this song: No

As I mentioned before, 2008 was a weird era where pop-punk bands were literally pop bands with guitar. They were only slightly cooler than like, The Click Five. Every Avenue was a particular egregious band when I think about it, their whole image just reeked of grown men writing songs for teenage girls and it just seems kinda sus idk.

This song is still catchy - the bouncy guitar, the infectious hook, the vocals that are slightly more soulful than the nasally pop-punk vocals you hear..... this one has “guilty pleasure” written all over it.
