Austin sat in his apartment quietly. He’d turned the tv off over a week ago and hadn’t turned it back on since. Dinner had become eating takeout or having pizza delivered, though he always ordered too much, like someone else was there with him. She left him two weeks prior with the only explanation being ‘my ex is back’ while she took her things out of the apartment. He’d been dwelling in memories of them staying up late watching movies, getting too drunk and whispering as they entered the apartment like kids sneaking into the house, their long talks or passionate sex, the way they could easily laugh when the neighbor complained about them making too much noise as they threw flour on each other in a horrible attempt at baking. A small tear rolled down his cheek while he sat wondering what he did wrong for her to leave him. Austin held back the wave of emotion flowing over him, swallowing hard at the lump in his throat while he brought himself to turn the tv on, the volume too low to matter, but he needed something to stare at.
