❛       i  am  so  sorry  ,  my  lord  !     ❜           embarrassment  touches  the  lady’s  face  as  she  covers  her  mouth  ,  wide  gray  hues  staring  at  the  wine  she’s  unwittingly  spilled  over  his  suit.            her  first  season  &  she’s  already  making  an  awful  impression  on  the  viscount  !          not  to  mention  she’s  most  certainly  supposed  to  be  finding  a  husband  before  her  child  is  born.             who  better  to  aim  for  than  the  viscount  himself  ?           she’d  make  an  excellent  viscountess  ----------   but  that  wasn’t  her  first  concern.           after  colin’s  death  ,  she’s  sworn  to  only  marry  for  love.          things  were  a  little  sped  up  now  with  the  upcoming  birth  ,  seeing  as  she’s  only  got  a  month  or  two   before  someone  would  surely  notice  a  bump.

she was surprised to see the viscount bridgerton. though she did not know him, even by the slimmest acquaintance, she recognized him by sight. after all, his family was a fixture in the scandal sheets and he... well he was not unknown around the opera house. gossip spread quickly through a company, after all...

and that, more than anything else, was the source of her surprise. to her understanding it had been some weeks since he had called on a certain someone. and suddenly, something like collegial protectiveness flared in her chest. 

“  my lord,  ”    she said, intercepting him in the passageway.    “  i had no idea we were to be honored with such illustrious company today.  ”    hetty fixed a knowing smile on her lips and stretched her fingers out to him.    “  i don’t believe i’ve officially had the pleasure...  ”

        his  voice  directed  towards  her  was  startling,  almost  as  much  as  it  was  painful  to  hear.  after  all,  edwina  would  be  lying  if  she  said  she  had  not  been  avoiding  anthony.  it  seemed  easier  to  process  all  of  which  had  taken  place  between  them.  unfortunately,  the  fact  he  had  been  in  love  with  kate  all  along,  and  not  her,  did  not  diminish  her  feelings  for  him.  she  wished  it  did,  wished  it  were  that  easy,  prayed  most  nights  for  the  fluttering  in  her  stomach  to  go  away,  but  as  he  talked  to  her  for  the  first  time  since  the  wedding?  edwina  knew  it  was  not  so.  swallowing  dryly,  the  youngest  sharma  allowed  a  sigh  to  break  out  of  her  as  mocha  hues  drifted  in  his  direction.  

        ❝  lord  bridgerton.  ❞  she  greeted,  offering  @lovegentle​  an  almost  imperceptible  nod  of  her  head  as  it  was  all  edwina  had  energy  to  do.  ❝  i  believe  that  was  the  plan,  was  it  not?  a  ball  to  show  we  are  all  still  friendly  and  the  wedding  cancellation  was  a  mutual  decision.  my  absence  would  defeat  that  very  purpose.  ❞  even  if  she  would  much  rather  stay  home  with  newton  than  be  forced  to  witness  her  sister  and  him  look  at  each  other  adoringly  for  a  second  longer  than  strictly  necessary.  ❝  it  was  my  decision  which  put  both  our  families  in  such  a  tarnished  situation,  it  is  my  duty  to  fix  it.  so  i  will  be  there,  doing  my  very  best  to  look  pleased  and  agreeable  with  the  situation.  ❞

her sisters both look happy ,   running around the backyard .   far from what they grew up knowing ,   but they are still young .   they adjust faster than she could ever dream of doing .   and if it wasn’t for prying eyes   :   she would love nothing more than run after them out there .   everything was a lot     .  .  .     stiffer here .   more rules to follow   (   all she knew of course ,   it was just new to actually have to follow them .   )   hands rest upon the railing of front porch and there’s a soft smile resting upon features   :   watching jasmine and lily play with the two youngest bridgerton siblings .   at least the four of them got along .   hear him before he introduce himself   &   it takes a second or two longer than necessary before she turns and plaster on a smile that could convince just about anyone looking in their direction .   anyone that wasn’t family and didn’t know the truth of their soon to be marriage .     

❝   my lord .   ❞      straighten up some ,   before there’s a small courtesy and brow raise in curiousity .     ❝   thought you would be with the other men .   hunting .   ❞      thought she would have the whole after noon where she didn’t have to play charades .

        “don’t worry, i’m not running off to meet with any   political radicals, brother.  i am still allowed to walk around freely inside our home, aren’t i?”  she fights back an eye roll though her tone of voice was indicative enough of her irritation.  anthony’s disappointment in her recent involvements came as no surprise to her.  eloise was certain every person in their household was either that or still in a state of disbelief, save for her personal maid and footman.  she just wished he could have been quietly disappointed like their mother was.  if it was any consolation, though, at least she wasn’t the only person he’d snapped at in the drawing room earlier.

    “  it is not my shot that is terrible, viscount bridgerton, but the company with which i am currently keeping.  ”  frustration rolls off of kate in waves, plain as day for anyone else to see. of course, the others have already traipsed ahead, following a path that she was convinced would not pan out. going deeper into the woods would do them no good. this was the right spot to stay if they wanted any sort of success from the hunt. and it’s just her luck that anthony decided to deign her with his presence, saying that she should not wander off alone.  “ it’s not as if you’ve had any success today. i believe you should halt your critique of others until you yourself have something to support your cutting words.  ”

@lovegentle​   :   did you do something different with your hair   ?

sit by the table for breakfast ,   book in hand .   and aubrey hall is silent for once .   which is pretty rare ,   but maybe not too odd .   it’s still early ,   the sun is barely up ,   birds are chirping   &   it’s pretty perfect .   no family members running around ,   nothing to worry about for once .   she could still be sleeping ,   before starting the day .   like it like this however .   there is a moment of serenity in the morning   :   there is just her .   there is her and she focus on her own thoughts or just read a book without being interupted .   either in her own room ,   or like right now ,   when everyone is still in their rooms ,   she can just be here .   fork dig into piece of fruit and chew on it when he enters the room .   her husband .   new .   yet to say it outloud to anyone .   my husband .   yet to really take it in .   because it doesn’t feel like anything has changed ,   except she has other duties now .    some vows infront of people ,   a kiss ,   and they were married .   a good union ,   as her father said before walking her down the isle .

surprise for both of them to see the other up so early she guess .   there’s a small nod of her head in a greeting before focusing back on the book   &   there is a     .  .  .     weird silence between them .   one she tries to ignore for the most part .   until he actually speak and it’s not something about what he is doing today or what happens today with both their families being under the same roof .     

❝   i did not care to wake my maid so early .   ❞      out of it usual braids and out of any head piece or hair pins   :   simply lay softly over shoulders and down her back .   gaze shift from breakfast   &   up to him ,   smile appear and disappear in a second .     ❝   thought i would be alone for a little longer .   ❞
