Totally wiped out and also infused with something I can’t describe. When there is so much wrong and it feels like there is nothing to be done, there is something truly amazing about not an insignificant number of people waking up as early as 4:30 on a Saturday morning to prep supplies to take out on four different routes throughout #seattle • • • The very first woman I saw today pulled a thick warm coat just her size from the bags of clothing we had brought. She jumped up and down saying this was the exact thing she’d been dreaming about, and gave me at least six hugs as I put together a bag full of snacks, water bottles, wet wipes, toilet paper and turkey sandwiches. • • • There are a lot of things I can’t do anything about. But there are also a lot I can. Today I took the time to show up for my unhoused neighbours and offer them all we had until we ran out. Today I can know there are people with clean socks and underwear, food, propane, fresh sleeping bags and coats that fit. Ideally, and not impossibly, stable housing could be a reality. It’s not. But @seattlehomelessoutreach is. And that’s something. You can support them with a monthly donation to ensure we always have the supplies we need for offering. This past weekend I led a class at the @maineshambhala Center. I offered this for free, and the wonderful participants gave me an offering of cash. Today I used it to buy gift cards to offer to unsheltered neighbours in Seattle. This is true Dana - generosity offered from the heart without manipulation, and accepted graciously. #LoveinPublic - here’s a super easy way to show care for unsheltered neighbours. 1. Buy some socks, assorted snacks and any other supplies you can think of that could be useful (tampons/pads, bottled water, gloves, batteries, wet wipes etc) 2. Assembled said items into packs in a water proof bag. 3.
