When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake, and then it subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots are become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the desire to mate every second of the day. It is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every part of your body. No, don't blush. I am telling you some truths. For that is just being in love; which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over, when being in love has burned away.
---
Louis de Bernières, Corelli's Mandolin
Love is a choice! It took me so long to realize this, but once I did I feel like it helped me a lot with my anxiety and rOCD. For the longest time I felt so torn whenever I didn't feel love for my partner, because I only thought of love as a feeling. So with the absence of feeling, I thought it meant that I didn't love my partner and therefore shouldn't be with him. But then I realized that love is also a choice, because I chose to continuously go through the obsessive thoughts and doubt because I was willing to do so. I chose to be in a relationship with him. I chose to be happy with him. I chose to love him. I chose to go beyond the doubt and continue my relationship, because I knew that I cared very much about him, and that he made me feel safe and happy.
Now I'm not saying to push through with a relationship because you feel like you should. If your partner mistreats you, hurts you (either physically or emotionally), or doesn't care about you in general then you should not continue that relationship. It's not healthy and you shouldn't have to go through that at all. However, if you know that your partner cares for you as you do for them, then I believe that relationship is worth fighting for. Only put time and effort into someone who's willing to do the same for you! You'll only get hurt otherwise.
That being said, remember that love is a choice as well as an emotion. Sometimes it helps to be rational rather than emotional, and to try and look at things objectively. Rather than focus on the negative, focus on the neutral and the positive. Remember the good times, and realize that you have the potential to create so many more. You know deep down that if you didn't want to be in the relationship, you wouldn't stay. It's only the doubt and anxiety that are playing tricks on you. If you're having a hard time getting through bad moments, find something to distract you. Eventually these thoughts and feelings will fade and you'll be able to see everything clearly again

Love comes in many forms—romantic love, familial love, platonic love, and even self-love. Each type of love enriches our lives in unique ways and contributes to our overall well-being. Choosing love means prioritizing compassion, understanding, and kindness in our interactions with ourselves and others.

Choosing love is an intentional decision we make every day. It requires us to look beyond our differences, judgments, and fears. Instead of reacting with anger or frustration in challenging situations, we can consciously choose to respond with empathy and understanding. This shift in perspective not only benefits those around us but also fosters inner peace.
2. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚
When we choose love, we create a ripple effect that extends beyond ourselves. Acts of kindness and compassion inspire others to do the same, creating a chain reaction of positivity. To truly embody the mantra “I will always choose love,” consider incorporating the following practices into your life:
3. 𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙎𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚
Before we can truly love others, we must first cultivate love for ourselves. Self-love involves treating ourselves with kindness, acknowledging our worth, and forgiving ourselves for past mistakes. By nurturing our own well-being, we become better equipped to extend love to those around us.
4. 𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨
Holding onto grudges or resentment can weigh heavily on our hearts. Choosing love means letting go of negativity and embracing forgiveness—both for ourselves and others. This doesn’t mean condoning harmful behavior; rather, it’s about freeing ourselves from the burden of anger and allowing space for healing.
5. 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣
In our interactions with others, strive to communicate with compassion and understanding. Listen actively and seek to understand different perspectives, even when they challenge your own beliefs. By fostering open dialogue rooted in love, we can build stronger connections and bridge divides.
