It was over. Finally, after months of being terrified, for her friends, her family for Harry, whom she had been separated from for so long, finally, it was over. They were free of the war, of the terror and hiding and worrying. She could be young again, carefree and irresponsible.
The people they had lost to the war would be with her for the rest of her life; just thinking about Fred now caused a sharp ache in her chest. She took a deep breath and placed her hand to the cold brick wall, steadying herself. She knew this grief would be a heavy burden to carry, and she would willingly do so, but not yet. Not just yet.
‘Ginny,’ a voice from behind her made her spin around.
And there he was, crooked glasses, bright green eyes, flyaway black hair. Harry Potter, the boy who lived, the boy she loved.
She stepped towards him, and he reciprocated, enveloping her in a tight embrace and pressing his face to her hair, sighing contently. No words were spoken between them, not for now, for now they just held each other. Sharing their relief that the war was over, they could be together.
And Ginny felt it was a good start to their new life, a life they would spend together.
