Merry Chrysler: Chapter 12
When Annabeth arrives at the party with Piper and Hazel, her eyes immediately scan the crowd and she gets a nudge and a knowing smirk from Piper for it. They’ve talked about what she’s going to do, Hazel too, who returned to the apartment this afternoon and was frantically caught up to speed. Piper wants her to find Percy immediately and make her Anna Scott speech. But Piper had wanted her to call Percy before the end credits of Notting Hill had finished rolling to make her declaration, which Annabeth had steadfastly refused to do. She needs to see him to have this conversation; needs to gauge his reaction and, if he reciprocates, be able to touch him afterwards. It’s not something she can do over the phone, though she’d texted him earlier to make sure he’s still coming tonight.
here’s the very little bit of a Bridgerton au that I started and will never finish lol cheers to letting go and moving on 💋
A simple navy blue carriage pulls up in front of the long abandoned city estate of the Jackson family, its arrival witnessed only by the small staff that maintains the home, and the moon. Percy Jackson, Duke of Sounion, steps out, quickly turning to offer a hand to his mother, the dowager Duchess of Sounion, Lady Sally.
“It hasn’t changed a bit,” Sally says wistfully as she looks upon the entrance to their home.
Percy smiles politely, and offers her his arm. “Shall we?”
Sally loops her arm through her son’s. “I suggest you take extra care to appreciate the quiet of the evening, my dear.”
“Why is that?” Percy asks with a confused frown.
Sally smirks knowingly. “Because by this time tomorrow, the entire city will be aware that the young, handsome and extremely eligible Duke of Sounion has arrived and nowhere will be safe.”
Percy rolls his eyes. “Mother, I told you, I am not in search of a Duchess. Someday, of course, but I simply wish to enjoy this summer in the city, that is all.”
“Well, I know that,” Sally teases. “However, I don’t believe the rest of the ton will have heard the news. Nor will they care.”
The two of them stop short as they reach the main hall, and look up to see a portrait of the late Duke. He stands tall and proud at the helm of a ship, looking regal and strong, and oh so very alive.
“You look so much like him,” Sally says, her voice a bit hoarse. “I wish he were here with us still.”
Percy takes a deep breath as he fights the urge to shrink under his father’s steely gaze. “As do I. Then maybe all these vicious mamas might consider leaving me be.”
Sally chuckles, her joy easing the tension in Percy’s shoulders. “Oh, my sweet boy, I’m afraid not even your father would be able to protect you from the herds of ambitious mamas.”
Percy walks his mother to her room and bids her goodnight, taking his time as he continues up the stairs to his own quarters. The long marble hallways are just as he remembers them, the clack of his shoes against the stone awakening a flurry of memories inside him.
All at once, he is a six year old boy watching his parents rush up the stairs together after returning home late from a ball. He is ten years old sparring with his father up and down the staircase, pretending to be a gallant knight fighting to save a princess. And then he is twelve, listening to the retreating footsteps of the men who brought bad news that would change his life.
He shakes his head as he stands at his window, letting the moon bear witness to the pain that still haunts him ten years later.
“A summer of fun is what I need,” he says to himself, or maybe to the moon and her vanguard of stars. “The Duke of Sounion has returned to take his rightful place in society.”
