Why Are We Even Doing This?

So it’s been about a week since Reese and I went public about our WE14 NY Weekend and our goals to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. But why are we even doing this?

Yes we’ve revealed through a few outlets that our moms both have fought cancer, so yes this is an extremely important cause to us personally. But why share this with everyone else? Why should everyone else care and how does this line up with ResolutionWE?

The main purpose of ResolutionWE is to empower and encourage one another. Therefore if at any time one of our friends, sisters, aunts or mothers are affected by cancer - we are too. The WE14 NY Weekend is our chance to talk about our goals, how we can form a network and support system of like minded women; but also to stand up and support a cause.

This is to be the first “Weekend” of many. And we hope to bring together more women and support other causes - because we stand and encourage each other.

You need to have boundless confidence! Trust that God will bring forth what he has for you!

I have started the first week of March off with a bang! This month for me is all about building up my physical and spiritual strength. And turns out it’s a good thing to stay open minded when you come up with one of your goals – because I ended up adding “intellectual strength” (does that make sense?) to the list as well! On Monday I made my first trip back to the gym in let’s say….awhile. I ran for 15minutes as a warm up, stretched, and worked through a few exercises I used to do back in St. John’s track. I obviously couldn’t lift the same weights that I used to a year ago; but it felt great to just get back in the motion of things. I did a couple variations of squats, deadlifts and lunges, alongside some core exercises. Finishing off with a 10 minute jog on the treadmill and some stretching, I was in and out of there in an hour and 20 minutes.

To work on my building spiritual strength I thought I’d join my Dad at the Wednesday evening bible study at our church. I didn’t really know what to expect but I thought I’d give it a shot. I ended up really enjoying myself. For some reason I had this idea of “bible study” being this intense class format of highlighting bible scripture and everyone quoting the Word all night and me sitting there trying to dissect the code of everything that’s being said. Yeah – it was nothing like that. It was really chill. Everything that was said was relevant to every day life. My Bishop spoke on some cool things and then for the rest of the time we watched a video. Again – in and out in just over an hour.

To finish off the trio strength training – I attended an “E-Business” workshop with a couple of friends on Thursday after work. The presenters spoke on ‘Ecommerce and Payment Processing’. It sounds like a bore when I write it out like that (oh well); but it was actually really interesting. There were a lot of key facts in there to remember if one was ever going to start a business of their own (*gives side glare to Karee*).

So first week is done and I am exhausted! However, work is never done because I know that this weekend I need to catch up on girl talk and have a business meeting with my ResolutionWE co-founder/sister Karee. But tonight – tonight we rest! - Going off to enjoy a well deserved dinner/drink with friends.

Can’t wait to tackle this goal next week and work on my strengths (which may or may not include: another workshop, networking event or even a 10k) – stay tuned!

How to start your ResolutionWE journey...

Okay so you’ve decided that this movement is something that you want to join in on – You’re definitely already on the right path! The next thing you’re trying to figure out is what on earth are you going to commit yourself to for the next month? In order to start off light, why don’t you pick something that you already have a strong interest in? Personally, we chose to commit to goals that we’ve already considered in the past. I’ve always loved writing and I thought journal entries were something easy enough to commit to (I’m co-founder of this thing so I can’t possibly fail to keep my commitment!). Seriously though, I’m finding that committing to this goal is starting to remind me of why I fell in love with writing in the first place! Ending my day writing something makes me feel at peace – It also makes me feel accomplished because I actually keep my word and do something productive instead of just snacking and watching TV all night! So pick a goal that’ll be fun for you – something that you can look forward to throughout your week!
