Dorothy Arzner (1897-1979)

During her career, between 1927 and 1943, Dorothy Arzner was the only female film director in Hollywood. She directed nearly twenty films and launched the careers of many famous actresses, including Katharine Hepburn.

She had a 40-year relationship with her partner, the choreographer and motion picture screenwriter Marion Morgan.

Constance Spry (1886 - 1960)

Constance Spry was a very successful florist in the 1930s. She created the flower arrangements for several royal weddings, as well as the coronation of Elizabeth II (1953). She founded the Constance Spry Flower School in 1936. After the Second World War, she established a domestic science school with her partner, Rosemary Hume. Constance Spry has written thirteen books, including ‘Flower Decoration’ and ‘The Constance Spry Cookery Book’, a famous cookery book co-written with Rosemary Hume.
