Have you thought about using Google docs or Open Office? Google docs automatically saves and I've never lost more than a couple of words when Open Office or my computer crashed/restarted itself.

I’ve used google docs in the past and i like them because i can access them from my phone if i’m away from my laptop but i just don’t seem to be as productive while writing in google docs for some reason.

writing in word just gives me this weird feeling of productiveness and i don’t usually have problems with it! thanks for the suggestions though!! :))
