okay, but can we just appreciate the song ‘majorie’

Dear Taylor,

this song is a song that I didn’t know I needed.

I’ve always wanted a song to remind me of my grandfather who passed in 2012, but I couldn’t quite find one. And yes, whilst my grandfather was not a singer by any means, I still can relate our relationship to this song. I guess anyone who has lost someone close can...

what hit me the most is that whilst I was hearing the song for the first time, a butterfly passed by my window, which is the animal I remember him by. The timing couldn’t be more perfect.

the lyrics reminded me of him so much, especially: 

“the car ride back and up the stairs...” - my grandfather and I always used to sing in the car (even though we both sounded terrible) and we even made up our own little songs.

“ Should've kept every grocery store receipt” - my grandfather and I always used to go the shops everytime I slept at his house to buy a newspaper early in the morning - it was our little thing.

the chorus alone reminds me of him and it makes me think of how happy he was and that he was taken from our family way too quickly - I was only young and I didn’t quite understand it - I didn’t know any better...

but now that I’m older, I do understand. I wish he was still around, but I can appreciate the person he was, and it helps me become the person I am today.

Today is a special 4th of July for me and my family. As some of you have known, my dad was diagnosed with stomach and esophagus cancer in October of 2019. Well after multiple treatments of 24hour chemotherapy and surgery, we got the news that my dad is now cancer free and in remission. He is the cornerstone of this family and the strongest amongst us. We needed him to beat it and he has. Thank you guys for supporting us through this tough time. We know that there may be a possibility that it may come back. We get it.
