Front hall of the McHargue house. The unusual staircase and the generous size of the front hall distinguish this house. Upon entering the hall, it is possible to see through the wide doorway of the living room at left into the dining room, for the doorway is framed by low walls.

Restful retreat. The marble floor of this lofty bathroom steps down to become a sunken tub, and rises to become a low wall housing plumbing and dividing tub and vanity areas. The wide mirror reflects equally wide windows that look out on an adjoining flower garden - a view echoed abstractly in the large painting. The tub is the central element in a restrained and orderly design that tempers the luxury of fine materials and evokes a mood of quiet contemplation.
